Let's Congress

Two new arrivals! German Eye and LF&C. The Landers snaps like a turtle and has half stops. The German Eye is an excellent little knife but no half stops.

Agreed. Very beautiful. The swedges are a nice touch on the sheepsfoot blades, and it isn't often you see a long pull on a secondary pen!

Are the scales MOP or an acrylic, or....?

Thanks for the comments on these knives they are some of my favorites. All the handles are pearl and the top 3 are carved which is rare for American made knives.

Precisely what had me second-guessing. I can't imagine that carving pearl with that sort of detailed pattern would be easy!

Truly some of the very nicest Congress interpretations I've ever laid eyes on.

Three of the Half Congress pattern I've added in the last few months;

Case 62052SS from 1996.

Congress is not really my favorite pattern. But I still like this one! :)
It's a "Bear & Bull" from Buck Creek

So shortly after the new year I received a package containing two more congress knives. These from our forumite Will (willgoy), who kindly sent them knowing that I'm a huge congress fan. Will - thanks so much and I'm sorry it's taken me so long to do this, I don't feel like I have time for anything these days...

The first, a Rough Rider. I have always been impressed with RR; they do fantastic jigged bone and their fit and finish is excellent. This one didn't disappoint. The blade combination is an interesting one

as you can see it has two pen blades, a spear and a sheepsfoot. I have quite a few congress patterns in various combinations but what tends to be a staple is this - if it has two blades of the same shape, they will most likely both be sheepsfeet (gr?). As is the norm. This is the first time I've seen two pen secondaries without two sheepsfoot mains.

It's a nicely done piece.

The second is another boker.

Boker really knows how to do this pattern, it's beautiful. Two sheepsfoot mains with a coping and a pen secondary. Gorgeous red jigged bone (why can't wrcase get bone like this?) which goes very well with the pattern.

This one celebrates a hundred and forty years of boker manufacturing - note the shield;

It's a lovely piece too and I have another boker of the same pattern with Grand Canyon jigged bone and a different blade etch.

What I particularly like about Boker's interpretation is the shape of the sheepsfoot blade. A great big spade of a blade with a lovely soft curve dropping down to the point, creating a very steep angle which allows the user to put a lot of pressure behind the cutting edge of the point in a way that you simply can't do with a wharncliffe.

I do like a good congress. Thanks again Will.

:)

I'm glad to see this thread get a bump! The redbone on that Boker is beautiful. I've added a few to my collection and now seems as good a time as any to share 'em.

VB, great collection there my friend, the congress is a very underrated pattern - I love the trio of what I think is winterbottom bone??

Wonder when we'll see another Congress run from GEC? It's been quite a while...

I'm dreaming of a #62 Half Congress Wharnie/coping in Autumn Gold jig...:D

And the tiniest little thing...a mini congress...

RR Mini Congress with green bone

Actually bought this one by mistake. Thought it was bigger. Guess I should have read the specs more carefully! :)

Thanks for the compliments! They are Queen's winterbottom delrin. A little more affordable than the real bone and still really nice knives IMO.

My two favorite knife patterns are Sodbuster and Congress. I have a couple of boker 4 blade congress, a CRKT congress 4 blade, and a Buck Creek 4 blade congress. I carry the Buck Creek the most out of the other congress models. As soon as I stop buying so many sodbusters, I'll get more congress models.

I just recieved my first Congress pattern slip joint and love it. Useful in every way. Pictures to come.
