Let's Congress

My first congress, an A-1 Levering (1900-1930)

It's got that "Hundred-year-old" look to it I love so much...

Finally found one of these 62 congress courthouse whittlers. Love this pattern!! Now, if I could only find the Spring Green one that started my hunt.

This one will certainly do till then.

Brett -

A Spring Green Courthouse Whittler has been on my wish list for a while as well. I was sorry I didn't jump on those when they came out. Doesn't seem like you see many of them come up for sale. But yours is pretty amazing as well!

They are an intriguing pattern. I scored mine from the exchange last summer;

:)

My burnt stag Half-Congress is what got me hooked on GEC knives. I've always liked the pattern and the example I got was stunning. Now I just wish they would offer the 2013 forum knife as a production Congress Jack.

This! ^^^^

ismaris - fully agree, that's some beautiful grain on that bird's eye maple. I also love the acorn shield.

Kicking this back up top; would be a shame to let all of these wonderful pictures of such a great pattern go to waste. :)

The great thing about the Congress pattern is that like most traditionals, it fits a lot of cutting edge into such a compact package. The squared off ends and gentle curve to the frame really make it stand out amongst other patterns. There may be some redundancy in the blade options, especially with the Cuban but sometimes you can't get enough of a good thing! The overall thickness of the Congress may put some people off for pocket carry, but I actually prefer the thickness (more surface area in the hand makes it easier to grip when performing some tasks). Everyone should at least own one - Rough Rider is a good inexpensive start before the inevitable rabbit hole of collecting other more expensive options from manufacturers like GEC, Case, etc.

I consider myself very lucky to happen upon a hard-to-find model that I've been searching for since I got into the pattern.... a Case XX in curly blue maple from 2003, from a limited run of 500.

And of course I have to add pictures, even if they are from the seller.... :)

Can't wait to get it in hand, and after a quick once over with mineral oil and compressed air to remove any leftover dirt from the factory, it will go into the pocket for a lifetime of service. Some of the best things in life come in small packages..... ;)

Good looking Congress! It's nice to see this thread come up for air. Thanks for adding that beauty to it.

Good to see some Congress patterns again making a showing in this thread, nice Case Knives to get it going. I added a new one a year ago, this Böker Solingen with stag handles. OH

This elder statesman has been in office for a long time! Boker USA, I use it for yard duty. Of course I am not the original
owner. I can envision some hard working farmer that carried this knife in his pocket everyday and used it like it was meant
to be used, as a tool to do a job. It is still tight as the day it was made, and without a doubt the sharpest knife I own! :D

Great Case, Mike!

Love the bolsters on that particular knife!

Nothing beats the look of a well-used tool. :) Still has a couple lifetimes left in it!
