Lets see some Hinderer action

Freshly oiled OD Micarta! This will be my EDC for 4-6 weeks, as I went ahead and sent my Eklipse out for a choil and DLC. When it gets back I’ll toss the textured Ti Battle Blue scale on it and it could be my favorite knife of all times ( and quite honestly my most expensive) but this XM-18 will always be my favorite use it hard folding knife.

Finally got one but instantly disappointed in the factory edge, or honestly the lack thereof. Literally can't cut paper. It's like a butter knife. Is this just how Hinderer edges are on a recurve? They offered to have me send in to "resharpen" but I'll probably just do it myself once my Ken Onion Work Sharp Elite arrives and I practice on some old kitchen knives first.

Unfortunately that's fairly typical for a Hinderer, but "shhhhhh" you're not supposed to talk about it. Just take pretty pictures and post them on Instagram. Seriously, from personal experience the skinnies tend to be a bit sharper out of the box, but the regulars not so. My regular Recurve, Wharnie, and Spearpoint were all about the same level of sharpness/dullness as you experienced with your Recurve. That's my biggest beef with Hinderer knives.

Thank you this question has been driving me crazy I’m glad it’s not that I just got a bad knife. Well not glad per se, still have to sharpen it myself lol

Both my Hinderer’s came pretty sharp, especially the wharncliffe eclipse. I actually dropped my slicer xm-18 a broke a tiny piece of the tip off and sent it in to have the tip sharpened out and it came back razor sharp. The pictures I have a few posts up are post-sharpening. Can’t even tell there’s a tiny piece of the tip missing

Got my first XM-18 3.5 last July, haven’t really carried it. Not gonna lie I’m not a fan of the jimping around the flipper tab. Really wish it was smooth like the Eklipse, Jurassic, 0562 etc. the main reason I don’t carry it. I love the blue/black G-10 though….now if only I could find a stonewashed non flipper XM with a fuller in the blue/black G-10……

I think what you experienced is more common than not.

I've had a few different favorite knife companies over the years, all based on quality and enjoyment but shifting with my tastes in knives. Hinderer is my current favorite, and with today's new arrival -- the XM-24 -- now represents a quarter of my core knife collection.

I'm not sure it'll be staying HELLO I AM ORANGE, but what I do know is that straight out of the box this monster is flawless, already drops shut with startling speed, and has its detent dialed in perfectly. This knife is an Event with a capital E. It's 100% of what I hoped it would be.

A year ago, when I was shopping for a big, beefy, high-end framelock flipper, I wound up going with the Hoback Husky over the XM-24. That...didn't work out in the end (although the Husky is a superb knife; it's the deception I didn't like). 🤣 It's all good, though! Knife collecting is a journey, and in this case my longer journey meant I got to snag a Bowie.

Here's my little Hinderer family: XM-24 gen.3, XM-18 3.5 gen.6, Eklipse 3.5" gen.3. Apparently I'm an autumn. ;)
