Lets see some Hinderer action

Or i could get down on a no choil 3" m390....its pointless on that size knife anyway

Honestly, I think a choil is more useful on a smaller blade then a bigger one. Problem with the choil on the 3" is that the choil itself is to small, either make it bigger and more useful or I'm with you and just eliminate it. Same with the MP-1, love the knife, not the choil it's too small(the choil)

I agree with you there, Bobby. Usually I like a choil on a smaller blade (like Joe points out) but when you're dealing with a 2.7" cutting surface there's really no room for a useful size choil. The 3" XM's seem a little bit too small for me although I've never seen/held one in person. I would like to try one in-hand some time so I can make an informed decision.

Anyone here that has a 3" XM - is it a shock to go to a 3" from using the 3.5" XM-18 all the time? Do you use yours?

I'm not trying to say I have a $1000 knife. Just that there were only a few made exactly like this one.
Just asking for opinions. You've made yours abundantly clear.
Thanks!

You know what, honestly I've been looking for 3+ months and I have never seen any stonewashed M390 no-choil XM's, so to me yours is kind of rare in that sense. I very much wanted one of those M390/no choil but I could never go through with it because I just don't like Working Finish...not enough to spend $425.

I don't know where everyone else is looking, maybe they have better sites or bigger group of sites to scan/Hinderer groups...but for me, the only one I've ever seen in that M390/no-choil configuration is in working finish.

That being said, I posted above that I don't think anodizing yours would do anything to diminish it at all, as long as it's done right by a reputable dealer and with the electro process.

Like I said earlier - I think, if anything, it could add to the price depending on the buyer. Me, for example, I like the anodized stonewashed XM's so that wouldn't deter me from purchase, it would be a draw. The guys here that know me know that I have had my last 3 XM-18's custom anodized by Whitty.

I prefer stonewash over WF and I like to get ano over non-ano. Not to say I don't like plain stonewash, I have one with no ano, too. So, just depends on the preferences of the buyers. Market is weird these days so there's no telling for sure which way it'll go but to me, you certainly won't lose money just because you anodize it.

I'm also curious why the 3" model isn't cheaper the 3.5"? Going by the xm18 3.5 vs xm24 price difference and the fact it's less materials you'd think it'd retail lower than the 3.5.. .

Good question. Is this not your pic? I assumed they were missing maybe because the pivots was being cleaned or something.

My guess would be it's because the market seems to be flooded with 3.5" recently.
They did just release a bunch of new 3" for the first time in a while, so hopefully that will decrease the cost of them soon if they keep making them.

Cool, I agree with pretty much all of that.
What I was initially trying to get at was that a regular Hinderer retails for around $425 and can easily sit and sit on the secondary market in the $300 range without selling.
Since this one was from a limited run and out of that they only did 3 or so exactly like this one, if I ever decided to sell it I could probably get pretty close to it's original value.
Not looking for a premium, just not looking to lose over $100 on it.
Wasn't sure if permanently altering it would take it from a $400 resale knife to one that won't sell at $300.

All that being said, I think the stonewash finish is growing on me. So nevermind. :D

Totally thinking that same thing yesterday. They charge $425 for the 3" and 3.5" I don't think that's fair. The 3" has a 2.7" cutting surface, that's nearly an entire inch less for the same price as the 3.5." Yet the 3.5" is about half an inch shorter than the XM-24 and is $100 less. Typical Hinderer math.
