Lets see some Hinderer action

Sorry I'm not too frequent on bladeforums. This knife came from Leonard Ikeda. Unforunately the screws were missing. I am not sure about any reblast but I don't think Leonard used many of his knives from Rick. I've attached photos from Leonard. Not sure about who may or may not have owned it prior.
The reblast was done after Leonard as well as the screw change. Some of us pay attention and keep track of who has what and where it moves to. Still sad to see that someone has altered it. It will forever have a question mark associated with it going forward. The water gets very deep very quick when it comes to Old Hinderers. Its best to stay out of the pool if your not an accomplished swimmer.

Totally agree that old Hinderers can get deep fast. That’s exactly why sharing information and helping educate the community matters more than talking down to people. Transparency and discussion are what keep the history straight, not gatekeeping who’s “allowed” in the pool or measuring swimming credentials.

The history is there for those willing to do their homework David. Myself and a few others have shared much of what we have learned and it has fallen on deaf ears. Why else do you think many of the long time collectors have disappeared? We are tired of the same old questions and people only chasing social clout. We are still around but we choose to not participate. David, I'm not saying you’re “allowed” or not, it’s not my call. What I am saying is that you missed obvious tells that someone who has experience would not have missed. I’m well aware that Leonard owned that XM and I know the condition it was in. A thorough search would have given you the exact same information I had. I firmly believe that people need to do their homework before making large purchases. Especially if they are not well versed on the nuances of what they are purchasing. The resources are still around if you know where to look and what you are looking for. . A discussion like this is a great thing for people to see, it helps reinforce that there are people who wish to misrepresent something for their own personal gain. It comes down to buyer be ware.

I think this is where we’re talking past each other. I didn’t make any claims, representations, or statements about originality when I posted the knife, I simply shared photos of a piece exactly as I received it. I didn’t alter it, and I wasn’t presenting it as anything other than what it is.

As for the idea that all the information is easily found, that hasn’t always been my experience. Many older forum links are broken, attachments no longer load, and social media blocks or closed groups make a lot of that history difficult to access unless you already know where to look. That’s not a criticism, just the reality for anyone coming in later.

New collectors asking questions isn’t a threat to the hobby; it’s how brands and communities stay alive. Knowledge only survives if it’s shared, not guarded.

At the end of the day, I love knives. I enjoy taking photos and sharing them. That’s all this post was meant to be. Any discussion around history is welcome, assuming intent or misrepresentation where none exists isn’t.

David, my intent was for there to be a public record of this XM not being original. I do not like that some unscrupulous person did not pass on the history of this knife and I don’t want it to happen to the next owner. I have seen this many times in the past and am saddened that it continues to happen. My previous statements should be a warning that proper vetting of the seller and thorough research are vital to any big ticket purchase. No claim on my part was made that you were the one who altered it, I only stated that it was obviously not correct. There are plenty of pictures online of Gen1 XM’s to compare it with as well as pictures of this exact knife in its previously original state.

As to the assertion that the information is easily found, I never made any such statements. I simply stated that the history is there for those willing to do their homework. You are correct that much of it has been lost. What is left is more than enough to make an informed decision and form basic ideas about Hinderer history. The old forum information has been gone for some time but there are still other sources. I know you are quite familiar with the U&C Hinderer group on FB. That is currently the best resource for any such information. There are a few members who date back to pre XM days and others such as myself who have spent years researching. I never said that it was easy, it’s quite difficult. You actually have to work to find any information. What you find is well worth the effort.

You are correct that new members asking questions is not a threat. What you see and what I see are vastly different. I see the same questions that have been asked for almost 20 years, it has gotten redundant. I see new members resorting to word of mouth rather than doing their own homework and figuring it out for themselves. I see people like yourself looking for the easy button instead of learning the how’s and why’s before you ask questions. It’s easy to demand that information be shared when you have none to give.

Believe me David, I assume nothing.

Thanks! Good pocket retention? At least better than stock?

Pocket retention works for me. In/out smooth and easy, one handed.

I normally have the Lynch or MXG in hand when I receive a new knife. Or I don’t carry until my deep clip arrives. So I can’t even try to answer how the stock Hinderer clip worked. It’s an immediate swap for me. No matter how good or bad the stock clip is. I like deep carry. Stock deep carry I leave alone.

In my experience the Lynch are a bit tighter than MXG but nothing that really makes me prefer one over the other. I do have many more Lynch.
