LETS SEE THOSE MAGNIFICENT HARNESS JACKS

Yes- Two nice 35's paceroni paceroni - that HJ10 has the most highlights in the Handle that I have seen out of the 10's, has this been re handled in Bone?
Thank you.
No, it has not been re-handled. Just as it came out of the tube- Gabon Ebony. My other knives with Ebony covers are dark black with hardly any variation or visible grain. This is the only one I have with these brown-gray variation areas. Maybe from the edge of the heartwood? Or sanded too much before being stabilized and sealed? The areas look lighter in the photo than they really are. If you look close you can see what looks like variation on the shield, which isn't the case. With poor lighting conditions, the luster of the Ebony, and a flash, it is not the best picture from 7 years ago when I acquired it.

Thank you Charlie.

Did you ever find out more about your Lawton with the Camillus Spiral at all?
No luck!! My guess is that Lawton carried on with Camillus after Empire shut down!!???
Goins is not always right about dates, or - like GEC has done with historical names. , Camillus ressurected the name "Lawton" themselves!!???

Have any of Charlie's SFO Harness Jacks featured an all steel construction?

The 35 HJ made we wonder. I love my all steel 35 Cattle knife.

To add to the later Harness Jack Knives I posted on page 100, here is a nice Electric Cut Co, Newark, NJ. (1890 - 1910) Harness Jack Knife.
Solid beast of a Knife, very happy to have this one arrive here to New Zealand!

Love the Beautiful Dense Ebony Handles, Everything about this Knife is just great, the Long Matchstrike Pull, the Walk and Talk is superb, the Knife is tight! a little wear on the main- but not a lot and for a Knife well over 100 years old, I'm thinking this is a a well loved and looked after survivor.

Or a cigar punch knife :D

Thank you Steve :)

I see what you mean euroken, I'm guessing it would work for that- but I have never smoked a Cigar - my good friend Mr. Paul Hilborn has had - a - many though! :)
You will see quite the difference in a Cigar Punch Knife and the Harness Jack knife like this, Bernard Levine's ( 4th ed) Shows Ulsters advertisement with this Punch blade stating ....

" Our new Prod-Knife with stiff Hollow Spoon-Bit blade, A perfect tool for boring holes in Wood and Leather etc."

And boy I can see just how this punch would be so good, it is like handling a very sharp Wood Chisel.!

So pleased I decided to work on my opening technique after watching some videos.

Its more of a curl of the thumb so pushing almost straight and less chance of snapping a nail.

I have also cleaned and oiled several times, then last night after cleaning under the tap I oiled it an put it on the radiator so the heat would make the oil run easier.

It made it even better.

Now I can open both blades with ease (better than with a pick) even without looking.

Its now a pleasure to open and close.

What a terrific knife this is.
