Love at first sight:)

Hey there Robin, that Miller looks just awesome, Millers seemed to do a beautiful job with their Bone - do you know if it was a specific style of Jigg pattern they used? - it seems to be similar through-out their knives,

Hi Duncan
I really love this old jack feels just right in the hand and takes a wicked edge. As for the jigging, I would assume (without any backup info)))) that Miller Bros didn't have a jigging machine when this knife was made. I think Scrade invented the jigging machine in the early 20s and Miller Cut Co closed in 26. The jigging kind of reminds me of some of the German jigging with the rough bottoms in the indentations. Maybe Charlie will chime in with his vast knowledge. This is a great thread Duncan, thanks for starting it.

Best regards

Robin

THIS is exactly the one I'm looking for... What a beauty! If anyone's got one to let go... :D

Beautiful HJ!!!!!

Hi Arizona
There is an 85 with the single slot punch for sale somewhere, not sure which dealer has it and can't remember what the handle covers are. If you can find one of the originals grab it, the punch is worth it's weight in gold and it feels amazing in the hand. Truly a modern masterpiece in the old style.

Best regards and good luck in your quest.

Robin

Thank you Robin for the information, and it's me who has the utmost pleasure in thanking people like yourself who share the knowledge, knives and passion.

Oh wow, no clue where to start?? Let me know if it comes to mind, i'll do a search and see..

Thanks!

Those double flutes are amazing looking, love the hole punch so much. I kinda wish they'd make a slip joint with just the hole punch. Kind of a one trick pony, but it would be interesting to see how different makers would go about attacking the issue.

I agree, I love the double flutes Charlie put in these. What a beauty!!

Thought I'd resurrect this thread to post a pic of the Robeson HJ Duncan gave me the other day. I think it's a lovely old knife. I've quietly admired this pattern as I quite often seem to be in need of an awl. Thanks again Duncan :)

That is one purty knife!!

Thanks Charlie. I'm away for a few weeks and this one is by my side and doing a fine job.

It can't be anything else but mighty sattisfying to think of the many people enjoying a pattern you've had a hand in resurrecting:)

Sam

Agreed 100% Sam, Charlie certainly has made this pattern become loved once again, and no wonder with knives like yours.

Lambertiana - Great Ulster!!!!

Jack - Great to see the knife here Sir-those Robeson's are just great-and I just don't care how worn that Bone is-its extremely beautiful in my eye, I am glad you like it, and hope you enjoy it-the punch loosens up after a while doesn't it-the funny thing is, if you leave it for a while -boy its a nail breaker - even with oiled joints!
When I get home to take some good shots, it will be my turn to thank you my friend.

Made by New York Knife Co, for Hibbard, Spencer and Bartlett, and using the OVB (Our Very Best) brand, this one managed to make it to today relatively intact! Older NYK jigging, this is a venerable piece IMO!

That punch was used before WWI, replaced by a "spiral" marked one early in the last century. This one is anywhere from 80 to 110 years old!
