LETS SEE THOSE MAGNIFICENT HARNESS JACKS

I picked up another Brantford HJ the other day- having been well loved would be a nice way of describing this Old Harness Jack. :)
The reason I bought it because this very well worn out HJ is that is sports the Camillus Sword Brand Etch and Tang stamp- and can be referred to when looking at the Brantford.

When I was first lucky enough to have this Brantford HJ placed in my hands, I was wondering who made it, it was later I found out that it was Camillus, so it was a nice surprise to come across this Camillus Stamped example- although be it a bit beat up.

I really like the Colour of this HJ, the Blade Shape threw me a little, sometimes it's extremely hard finding out who made certain Knives for Belknap - that Punch being Schrade's though says it all.

The HJ Well has been dry lately so I have another couple waiting at Paul's that arrived a few days after this latest box arrived :)

Nice Full Blade - TERRIBLE lighting that gives this Knife NO justice - please accept my apologies.

I received this HJ awhile back and finally had time to clean it up a little and do some research. This is probably the dirtiest knife I've ever handled and I'm sure it was a workhorse back in the day. I also tried to clean the main blade tang stamp to see who made it and still can't see it good. The punch does have a patent # 701878 and it's dated June 10 1902 Owen L Harrison. After reading the patent I'm still not sure what makes this punch different from others. For an old dirty pitted HJ it still snaps okay, main blade has some side play and the punch is tight.

Frank that's really is a workhorse and deserves to continue on that Path.

That's a New York Knife- probably one of the more well known and loved Make of Knife you can get my friend, Dave, Charlie- well everyone has taught me so much about the HJ, and its a journey I intend to continue once I settle into our new House.

Your Punch is super famous on your Knife, you can google that patent number that is on your Punch and it will bring up some great information of who and when it was patented ( OOPS! see you have done that ), the Punch as you can see is "Laminated" at the Tang - and is very different to others - which I find interesting as normally if you would identify a weak area - it would be with something like this, but for all the hundreds of Laminated Tangs I have seen- NEVER have I seen a break down of this marvelous construction - so it's intention to make it stronger obviously worked- well!

at times you might see your Punch with a gorgeous spiraled back - or in it's plainer form without the Spiral.

That's a Cool New York Harness Jack you have there kind Sir :)

Fantastic Charlie, do you know who made the Hudson Bay? 😎👍
I see the issued pliers as well.

I have 3 pairs I reckon they are the best.
I think the pliers might be the very first thing I bought off my mate with the tool stall. I think I've bought 2 more pairs since, over the years, one Wilkinson, one Lucas, but he has them pretty regularly, and I've never paid more than a fiver. I'd much rather have a nice well-made, reliable set of pliers, with some history, than a new set 👍

No, I don't know, Jack. It has some earmarks of a German knife, but so far I've never figured it out!! It's the only example surviving that I have seen!! Bernie Levine owned it before me!!
He offered it to the HBC Museum, but he wanted them to buy it, and they refused to pay for it!!
