Lets see what you drive

Here's my ride:

Stylin'!

That 71 Cuda is SWEET ! ! ! !
Thanks! This past summer I upgraded the car with an Indy top end (EZ295 CNC heads and intake), T&D rockers, Quickfuel 1050 annular booster carb, wide-band O2 sensor, a mild solid roller cam, Weldon fuel system, Alterktion front suspension, 4-wheel Wilwood disk brakes, billet rallye wheels, Nitto tires, and some floor-pan welded subframe connectors. Next up is bodywork/paint and a 540" shortblock... eventually. :)

Here's what the engine currently looks like:

mother of god...

Cuda, I was going to post some pics of my old 'muscle' car, but it seems a shame to dilute the pages when you've filled them up with such machines. You have taste. A cuda AND an NSX? I can't think of much better to play with.

Very nice.

Tube, you are very, very kind. :o Please don't skip your pictures because of me. I appreciate ALL cars that are worked on for enjoyment, especially musclecars.

WOOT a Lotus! I really wish I could afford one of those! I see 2 drive by my work every morning, white and orange. Very cool shot too!

Here is what I use to drive, USS Kitty Hawk. This was taken in January 1980 Persian Gulf Iranian Hostage Crisis.

Here's my project/dd. An 88 Chevy sportside. Has a 4.3 liter v-6, 5 speed stick, added a pioneer head unit, with 4 infinity plates and a 10" infinity subwoofer; a custom mounted ham radio. I purchased it from my employer for 1,000, turned around and rebuilt the engine because the lifters were knocking (they'd ran it out of oil).
Gas mileage stinks, only 14 mpg, but I'll never sell it.

Happy to report got rid of my VW GLI traded for a new HONDA CR-V .SWEET i can get in and out gets 24/30 mph now come the mods. 4cyl fast enough 166 stock will get it it up to 260 or so prety easy . VW was cool but way to small . Came stock with 16.5 tires finally a car I can get in pretty cool .They call it a cross over i call it perfect . Will post new pics when done ,tint exaust, ect .

How do you plan to get 100HP more out of the CRV? I dunno what kind of drivetrain they use, but it seems like a lot to ask from an SUV.

HONDA preformance ,exaust, cold air intake, electronic hp chip to start already shipped

FULL exauset (performance header, increased diameter exaust tubing, high flow cat, and a performance muffler) will net you about 15 horse power.

Purpose built, model specific (not a generic kit) cold air intake will give you about 10 more horse power.

Electronic "chips" do jack squat. all they realy do is reconfigure your ignition system for premium gass. 2 horsepower gains MAX.

better have a LOT of other stuff left unlisted under that "to start" catagory because your going to have about 70 horse power to go.

here is a hint, you need more aggressive camshafts and a larger diameter throttle body to get more air into your engine. a CAI is all well and good, but the simple fact is your valves are only open for the same short period of time. that limits the amount of air that can squeeze in during normal aspiration. All the Cold air intake does is free up the restrictions imposed by the factory box. esentialy its the same as if it were breathing on its own without a filter. You havnt actualy increased the engines performance at all, your simply allowing it to reach its existing potential. You need to change the cams and valves to actualy increase the engines potential at all.

You will be lucky to gain 30 hp with just an intake, exaust, and "chip".

Here is what I drive most days.
Saturn1.jpg

97 Saturn SC2
----
125hp aluminum block 1.9L

IF I had money to dump into a car, i would put it into my 77 Trans Am. for about $6,000 I could have that thing running 10 second quarters with no nos. 600+ horsepower will do that.

There was ONE guy who mannaged to get 400 horsepower out of his saturns 1.9, but that was with Nos, and he still only mannaged an 11 second quarter.

I like my Saturn the way it is though. Its faster than most other 4 bangers on the road, and it gets 40 mpg highway.

My CAI might have given me 5HP...maybe. I got it more for the noise factor though, it really makes the engine scream behind the seat :P That and it makes a nice "PSSHHH" sound when TVIS is activated.

What's funny is modern cars often times aren't anywhere near there advertised HP claims. I've seen a number of stock cars dyno'd that were 10-20HP short of the advertised HP.

The reason for that is that the stock numbers given are crank HP. 95% of the time when someone is dynoing a car they are then giving the wheel hp. there is loss in the drivetrain, that is normal.

Mods are a real pain with a learning ECU like the lotus has. You can dyno it, then throw on a CAI and exhaust then redyno and gain a little power. dyno it again in a month and you be lucky to be at your stock numbers. The ECU tunes out the mods to get everything back to stock.. thankfully there are ways around that now.

You loose about 20% of your crank horsepower at your flywheel. The cast iron flywheel on my Saturn weighs 20lbs. Luckily Fidenza makes an aluminum one that weighs 9lbs.

Your correct. MOST CAIs will only give you about 5bhp gain. Thats all i got on my Pontiac 6000. SOME high end model and engine specific setups can give you 10 because they are designed specifically for the application at hand. These types of setups usually cast about $250 and relocate the filter outside of the hot engine bay (true RAM air, not a short RAM like you normally see).

AEM makes a True Ram air intake for the Saturn 1.9 that has been independently verified to give 10 additional horsepower. This is from Joe shmoe who posts dyno printouts before and after, not from AEM.

166 stock will get it it up to 260 or so prety easy

haha pretty easy?!? if you had that motor fully built with a custom turbo or supercharger you still would have a very hard time reaching 260hp and that would run you around over $5000 easy... those motors put out around 135whp stock so you would have to bump up over 125hp which is no easy task on a 4cyl, and if that CRV is an automatic then it would be next to impossiable to get those kind of numbers out of it without having to upgrade the tranny which would cost thousands more. I have a 2002 civic with a bolt on turbo, hondata ecu, full exhaust, FMIC, and tuned by a local race shop and could only manage 173whp, which was a vast improvement over the stock 103hp that my car had originally dyno'd at but i spent over 4 grand in the process. it is a super fun car to drive and i was managing to run consistant high 13's in the 1/4th, compaired to the high 16's i was running stock.
