Let's see your Becker bags

Yeah...would be nice if they sold that here. However, my Condor 2 holds enough stuff to almost be uncomfortably heavy.

I have nothing bad to say about the quality of the Maxpedition bags, but I think the designs just don't suit me all that well. Namely they just don't have a long enough torso length to be comfortable for me (6'2). Now on a versapack or smaller bag that doesn't really matter.

I went with a Falcon II. Agreed on the torso length. I simply paired it with a Proteus so that it extends torso length and you get a functional hip belt. Works great.

My Kelty Redwing is what I carry for long day hikes, or maybe a 1 nighter. This pack has logged well over 100 miles on my back. It's been rained on, snowed on, run over with an ATV, got sticky with pine sap, and still cleans up like new. Can't beat Kelty for the quality or cost.

Kelty makes a great pack. My wife and I have a couple of Kelty Moraines that have been all over, including a two-week trip through the British Isles.

Have you tried the 5.11 bottle carriers? I bought the Maxped one for part of my kit...Nalgene SS bottle, Nesting cup, Fish Spreaders, Wetfire, Cookware. But it is just WAAAAY too overbuilt!

Get some accessory pouches and build a kit around it.

I will have the larger Maxped bottle holder with me at the Gathering. 12x5 I think.

I have a Condor 10x4 kit and a Maxped 12x5 kit I could bring.

Guyon, do these kits you make from accessory pouches cost less than the packs their meant to go on? Excluding contents, I'm looking at a $100 bag, the 5.11 MOAB 10, mentioned earlier in this thread, and the feature(s) I like most about it are (in a very particular order): Sling pack strap, MOLLE webbing, and Velcro patches (for attaching BH and BFC WSS patches, along with an Old Glory patch).

I agree with C_Tanner. They're too bulky on a pack IMO. I just make dedicated kits.
Cost? The Condor kit with 4 pouches was around $65, I think. So yeah, it adds up.

When you say their bulky on a pack, are you talking about a smaller EDC pack, or a larger day/overnight pack? I ask only because I do like the extra MOLLE webbing of the EDC packs compared to the seemingly little exposed on your kits, and again, the sling style keeps me free to move as needed, yet properly fitted.

It's bulky on my Condor 2, which is considered a 3-day pack. If you want a bottle carrier mounted on a pack, the 5.11 is the way to go.

In my pack, I keep a guyout/nalgene SS bottle inside the pack. Outside I have a molle canteen holder, with a canteen, canteen cup, and Canteen Shop Grilltop Stove.

Thanks for the info, part of the reason I was looking at the 5.11s was because their gear had better reviews for those over 5'10" than MAXPED, also have lower prices. The other part was I like things in black.

I was entertaining the thought of getting a new pack. I have the large ALICE, and the Max Falcon II. Would kinda sorta like to get something in between those two size wise, and just have the one pack.

The thing that people do not realize is that there a different height difference on the maxpedition backpacks because they are made so the possibility for a larger tactical utility belt or gun belt can be worn with theyre packs and have better mobility if you want to climb a mountain or scale a building..they ain't some hippity dippity design flaws, they're made that way for a reason.

I understand their designed to offer more mobility, but I won't be using my pack in mid air, just walking around camp.

Double the love for the CFP90(Vector) here. I took a few strays with me upon my exit from government employment.
