I put this up in the "what ya carrying today" thread. Might as well give it a go on this one lol. Browning "bushcrafter", its just a drop point hunter to me. Like someone said, hey this bushcraft thing is hot we need a bushcraft knife.

I posted this in the GKD forum's thread on bowies and thought I may as well post it here also.

Made by J. Neilson, (now MS), San Mai Bowie, 161 layer high carbon San Mai steel with a 5160 core. Nickle silver, Sambar stag and Buffalo horn.

J. did this knife for me, in 2005, before his JS, MS and fame on The History Channel's Forged In Fire. Preston

Real nice late 60's Western there, a 48B right ?

My apologies, I saw your question and had every intention to respond but I spaced on it. It's actually a WesternField. I'm sure it was made by Western since it pretty much looks like my Dad's knife from the 50's or 60's. I have one marked "L48ABG" with a leather handle that my Dad found in a car once.

Yeah it's a western for sure, I believe I have heard of the western field line before but am not 100% on that.
The thicker pommel is the only difference I can see
I'm sure it has their forked tang, and the sheath is western all the way.
It looks like a brown version of the jet black sheath for my 1968 western black beauty f48a.

An L48a ( L for leather handles ) of '68 or so would have a sheath like this one.

I don't know if they did the same with the western field knives, but a Western stamped version of this knife from '67-'72 or so will have the model number on the top face of the guard.

My Western is stamped on the blade. The WesternField has 60-1561 stamped on the blade opposite side of the name. Dad's is back in the Midwest so I can't take a look at that one.
