Ya don't think Sunny has a thing for those big stickers do ya? :D Nice one.

Phil, sorry to hear you're feeling bad, but glad to see those pretty little knives. I've been giving those bone stag, D2 Queen fixed blades some thought. They seem like a good knife value as well as just looking good.

You mentioned in the Copperhead thread that you got some of your copperheads from Greg over at PGQuick. I've posted this already here, but I'll toss it in again as it is an SFO Queen I got from Greg off eBay. Not D2, but a neat little knife none the less.

What a finnnnneeeee sticker that is Amos!! :D

Thanks Amos. I never really liked patinas on knives, especially slipjoints, but some of these old german carbon steel hunters and bowies just look right with a good patina on them.

I'd be heartbroken if the patina on the stag handled hunter/bowie in the second pic were to be polished away. This knife has been in my family for years and it's how I always remembered it. It's the only knife I use and my father uses to go hunting with. My uncles will also call us to request to take it...lol. Great knife that takes an unbelievable edge.

The little sock/knicker knife on the bottom is probably over 100 yrs old, so I'm not messing with it's patina either. The sheath is falling apart, so i had to be extra careful taking it's pic today :D

Psycho78, already a great heritage on that stag hunter then. It makes it more enjoyable when you have that connection with it. A hard combination to beat.

LOL, don't worry Sunny, I won't make noise cause nobody remarked on my sticker again. heheh. Actually, the darned thing is almost a bit to small on the holdin end. It feels like it needs about another half inch or so for a good feel in the hand. It's a four inch blade with a three and a half inch handle, but with it being thin on the slabs, it is just a wee to small for a good, working grip. I thought it might make a nice cowboy knife for the gun belt, but I still prefer that stag Boker 519HH better for that use.

Ahhh, the search for the perfect knife. Elusive, exquisite pain.

2 new ones :D

Joel Bolden's Baby American Bowies
A new take on an old design.

This is an old Hofftitz Bowie with 6" blade 1/4 inch thick, yet great shape and grind. Nice pinned stag handles. Great for EDC.

This was my pappaws knife that he used for skinning. He had it as long as I can remember (I'm 36 now). He always said it was made out of an old file but never how he got it or who made it. It never had a sheath as long as I can remember. Now granted, all of the info of what it was made out of may not be entirely true. My pappaw was pretty good at stretching the truth.

It was used skinning squirrels and rabbits. Processing hogs. Mammaw would take a hammer and pound it through the bones when cutting pork chops. I was very excited when she offered to give it to me during my last visit. Pappaw died a few years ago and this was always one of my favorite memories of him.

I've got a couple of other old knives I'll post pics of in the next day or so.

Thanks for looking,

Charles

Charles, your personal history with that knife makes it pretty neat. It ain't purdy, but it is what a knife is really about, a real working tool used by people for living. That puts it high on the cool factor scale.

Agreed!. What a great vintage used and abused skinner!:) :D  Just the way they ought to be.

Hey there guys & gals,
Thought I would add a unique knife that perhaps you all may not see all the time..

Its got its roots in our fixed blade addiction but its blade is not made of steel.. Lets play the old vintage game '20 Questions'.. 'Animal, Vegetable or Mineral??'..:D

I was going for older beer bottle...:D

Definitely on the cool scale, Anthony! Bet it will cut too. A lot of folks don't realize, until they cut themselves, that obsidian and flint blades and arrow heads can be quite sharp.

If you use that to harvest some wild rice (which IIRC isn't really a rice) you could have red beads and rice! <snicker>.

I have heard recently that surgeons are using obsidian blades for scalpels, as the glass edge is apparently better for at least some surgical applications than steel. I think it was eye surgery, but I'm not sure.

I've heard similar, that they've been used for certain surgeries.

Thomason, I guess it depends on where ya stick it and who in. ;) Next time some sheeple type accuses you of having a cave man or savage mentality, tell them point taken, and inserted!
