Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

Thanks for sharing them.

I use it a bit. I try to limit stress and time-loss by sticking to "Buy it now"s.

Nice job.
So this L36 with unstamped guard and Boulder Colo / USA on the tang would be pre 1968, if I have learned aright.

Where could I find one like this? I use to have one in my tackle box as a kid. My father gave it to me after it was sharpened too many times for him to use. The blade profile was that of a nail file but it served me well. I would love to add one to my collection worn out or not.

Nice, isn't it? The 5.5" blade really hits the spot for me. It's the only one I've seen, and it was underpriced at an antique mall in Coloma Michigan.

Well, that depends - is there a model number stamped into the pile side ricasso, or is there no model number at all on the knife?

With no reference to double tang patent number = after 1952.

No model number any where = 1953 to 1954

Ricasso side model number = 1954 to 1967

Guard stamped model number = 1968 to 1972

So...it looks as though it comes from Oregon and is an Aycock, I knew it wasnt a Murphy, but figured it to be one of his followers as I remembered reading about these knives some years back.

kinda plain - but kinda cool too, the Sheath is a nice little U.S.N Sheath in relatively good condition that would leather spruce up nicely.

Here's Case's equivalent. 325-6
Case%2520325-6.JPG

Very nice, and surprisingly similar (though the Case has a much better sheath) Sheffield cutlers have been producing knives like this, and a lot of similar patterns, since the early 20th century, but I think the American influence is obvious. Originally, the Sheffield cutlers may have had an eye on the American market, but the once enormous Boy Scout movement were their biggest customers. Here's another, known in Sheffield as a 'Whittle-Tang Bowie (available in both stacked leather and stag, and in blade lengths from 3" to 8"). So many were produced in Sheffield, they are known as 'Town Patterns'. Similar knives were also produced in Germany

It may not be super fancy but I fine beauty in simplicity.
This is a really cool knife overall, but that blade shape really is attractive.

Here's another strange Western. Camillus era I'm sure. W36.
I've seen them flat-ground like this, sabre ground with very narrow parallel flats at the back, and ground to look like the L36. I've seen this handle with a pommel nut, fork-tanged with two pommel pins, and I know not what else. In my box of materials from the e-tailer that bought a lot of stuff from Camillus, I have solid handles grooved to slide into the forked tang.

I really love that little 48B there, I've got one like it on my list but I don't do eBay so it'll probably be a while before it happens.

I thought only the F series Black beauty line came with the jet black sheaths, maybe I'm wrong.
