Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

This new Old Hickory outdoors mini fillet just arrived, been waiting a good while for BHQ to get them in stock.
I'm still not 100% positive if they're carbon or stainless, but I'll know soon enough I suppose :D
The site says carbon, but the rep in the blade show video said stainless.

It should make an excellent ultralight EDC belt knife, I'll give it a go and see.
I don't do much heavy duty cutting so I can't imagine any issues and I know it'll sure be great for cutting my lunch.

I'm not too impressed with the sheath regardless of COO but it is functional, as a lefty I'm sure I'll make one eventually but I will give the factory sheath an honest try.

Western skinner. I'm not sure this is the sheath that came with it, but I think it is.

The earliest date code I have seen is J in a circle, 1986. They were also made during the Camillus years. Does yours have a date code or not?

The sheath is NOT original. While the original sheaths were made of black leather, they were of a pancake style with 2 rivets at the throat (Camillus version) OR 5 rivets, 2 at the throat, 2 half way down and one at the tip Coleman version).

The Coleman-Western versions have COLEMAN WESTERN in the molded handle. Then there is your handle mold and the known Camillus versions have your version - simply a script WESTERN in an oval.

There was a Camillus version that came out in 2005/2006 that was the BM14, for BUCKMASTER, which was modled into the handle.

It has an M.

Does the M without a circle make it 1989? And I wonder if the R is for rubber.

Yes "M" is the date code for 1989. For reasons known only Coleman, I and J date codes were stamped with circles. K, L, M, N and O were circleless.

The "rubber" is actually "kraton", the artificial rubber like substance used by Kabar on their black handled knives.

Initially, when Coleman-Western introduced kraton handled fixed blades in 1985, there was just the filet knives - 966, 967, and 969. The 9612 was introduced in 1986. "9" for rubber handles, "6" for filet knives and then "6", "7", "9" and "12" for 6 inch, 7 inch, 9 inch and 12 inch blades. The rubber handled filet knives model numbers were in their own little world.

The R-series came out a little later. R was the handle material identifier for this material on non-filet knives. First were the R14 and R16. Camillus added the R2, R12, R18 and the R10 hatchet in 1996. At least, I think so. The R12 and R18 and R10 are labeled as "NEW" in 1996. The R2 is in the 1996 catalog but not labeled as being new, but it is also NOT in the 1993 catalog. There was also the R1018 combo.

Original sheaths as far as I recall. No date stamp. I think we can safely say Camillus made for both. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yep - original Camillus Western R series sheaths. As you can see, Camillus put Western snaps on the WESTERN R-series, but stamped a script REMINGTON into the sheaths for those made for Remington. The Remington knife is similar to the Western R12. I don't know what model number Remington assigned to the knife.
