Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

Jack, that pattern is probably very close to the original Bowie knife that Jim used at the sandbar fight.
The bottom one in this photo is one of the earliest known examples, the Perkins/Shively Bowie.

Great photos Jeff  Tod actually sold that one as a 'Trade Bowie' I think. I'm not sure he still does it, it arrived beyond blunt, and he told me to keep it

Interesting knives! They made me think of a couple I have in a box of butcher and carving related knives destined to leave the property some day. Levine showed a catalog cut from the German company of Henckels, which called these knives for the butcher/slaughterhouse trade "scimitar steak" knives. These have a little more pronounced curve but similar to the Svord knife above in many ways.

A "Thackray knife" typically refers to a vintage surgical instrument manufactured by the Chas. F. Thackray medical supply company.

Medical & Surgical History
Historically, the name is associated with Chas. F. Thackray Ltd, a major British medical supplier established in Leeds in 1902.
  • Surgical Instruments: The company manufactured a wide range of specialized surgical tools, including amputation knives, scalpels, and orthopaedic instruments.
  • Orthopaedic Innovation: They were pioneers in hip replacement technology, famously collaborating with Sir John Charnley in 1963 to manufacture the Charnley Hip System, which remains a global standard.
  • Thackray Museum: Many of these historical instruments are now displayed at the
    Thackray Museum of Medicine
in Leeds, founded by the founder's grandson, Paul Thackray.
