  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

These are by David Farmer. Their simplicity belies their utility. I think they're probably the sharpest and best handling fixed blades I've come across, and I have gone through many over the years. The thin blade stock represents a philosophy lost on many people recently obsessed with conflating knives with prybars. I like them so much that I am sending another of David's knives to my brother for his birthday. Anyway, pics:

Etched 3/32" L6 and maple. Probably my favorite steel at this point.

1/8" 1095 and jobillo?

Oh, did I mention there was a slight size difference? :p

Sonnemann, David Farmer's L6 tool steel is the best I have used to date on whitetail deer. Admitedly not the toughest assignment, but all the same, it has done a better job than 440C and D2 have. Two years ago I killed a huge doe, and the L6 drop point went through the nearly 3/4" rib bones up against the sternum with minimal pressure and no damage to the edge. After cleaning 3 deer in two days, all the edge required was a couple passes on a steel and stropping to easily lift hair off my forearm. Very tough stuff. The bamboo handles look great and seem impervious to blood and water.

Here's one that I really enjoy. It's a Puma Bayernmesser, which Andi has told me means "Bavarian knife." My wife's parents gave this one to me, having picked it up at a garage sale or flea market in Miami, FL.
I'm not sure about its age, especially since it came with no box (and I understand that part of dating a Puma knife is examining the packaging).
If anyone can help with dating this one, I'd be thankful. :)

...and the obligatory cat-shot. ;)

Thanks for looking,
Alex

Dudes - it's too soon for this awesome thread to die. Roust those old blades out from hiding, snap a pick and post it. There is alot of fine, fine vintage steel in this thread. Here are a few of mine:

From the top:
Kabar
Unnamed, but it looks exactly like a Kin_Foe that I have
Remington RH-34
Marbles

Your knife was made in the first half of 1990 according to this chart > http://www.knives.com/knives/history/115-puma-knives.html

Robin

Some mighty nice ones there. Thanks for posting! :)

This one could use a little freshening up....

In case no one has noticed, I've really developed an affinity for Behrings....

This 6" Hunter from a forumite;
This 6" Fighter from another forumite;
And this 8½" Camp is still on the way....
to be continued.... :D

Sorry, the pics are gone, as are the knives...

You have quite fine taste in traditional working mans stickers here, AKC.. It does not get much tougher than the Treeman boys..

This isn't nearly as cool, but I snapped it today for the "What are you carrying" thread.
Buck 102, this one is from 1994.

Naw, it looks cool!

I like the little Bucks....

Alan. Are all of your new Behrings from junior or is there a senior in there?

These are all Jr's knives.

Now the balance needs to be restored.... :D

I hope you get the time to take a family photo soon. Those are truly spectacular knives.

She is very , puuko!. I am a big 'old Buck' fan too. I love carrying my late 1970's - early 1980's Buck Woodsman as well.. She really is a great all around woods walking sticker to be sure!

Fes,

Did you make your friend have to pull her from the stone to demonstrate his worthiness?. ;) :p :D
