I'm here at work today. We are frying some turkeys and prepping for the office Christmas Party. It's kind of slow this year compared to years past. We had 350 people here for the party last year. This year we will probably get half that.

Anyway, I couldn't resist posting up the jumbo. (Gearwhore that I am) I didn't pull all the stuff out cause I'm at work and all, but here is the list.

Front pocket
Surefire
Head lamp
compass
power bars
3x5 write in the rain pad
diamond sharpener
pens

Main Pocket
FAK - Homemade combination of a survival kit and first aid kit
Ziplock bag with "wetones", cheap poncho, trashbag, and a 20' hank of paracord.
GPS unit
Gorilla Grip Camera Tripod
Maxpedition M2 pouch with Canon Camera and thumb drives, memory cards, cords and so forth.
Monocular
Med bottle with asprin and other otc stuff

Pouch on side
Lite my fire small fire steel with the following attached to the cord
pulsar 2 led light
REI key chain compass
Leatherman squirt
whistle.

Leatherman Wave
Titanium spatula/spoon utensils

Sleeve behind that pouch holds the Izula

Stashed tactically around the remaining pockets are individual tea bags, juice mixes and other mixes for the Guyot SS water bottle and cup that are nested in the holder.

I use the CCW compartment to hold maps and other paper items that fit.

Here's my Jumbo in khaki foliage:

I'll post up some more pics when it's entirely kitted out, as it's going to be my light B.O.B./EDC man purse. Right now the bag is wrapped and waiting under the tree :)

...I really want to set mine up better and I'm hoping you folks can help me learn. :)

Stormstaff, you may get more useful info on how we setup our versipacks if you let us know what your intended use is - I tend to swap gear around when the family goes on vacation, compared to it's "everyday" load out when it serves as a light B.O.B. I do keep some things consistent.

The top-most pouch is the first-aid kit, including shears, benzalkonium chloride, antibiotic ointment, steristrips (can be using in place of stitches for deeper wounds - I have had to use these), cpr mask, surgical tape, and an assortment of non stick gauze and wrappings. This "little" pocket is surprisingly big.

The zippered pocket outside the front flap is the booboo pouch. I have younger kids and they're always getting scrapes and cuts, so this pouch holds a whackload of bandaids in various sizes, more benzalkonium chloride wipes, and tweezers.

The forward zippered pocket (the one with two zippers - aka the radio pouch) is the toolkit. Leatherman, streamlight (20 lumen), compass, folding knife, and fire starting kit (matches, bic, firesteel) all live in here. Can't forget the RC-4 clipped to the molle.

The CCW pocket is currently unused. I do have a dual-mag retention insert on order which will go in here to hold a larger flashlight, likely a surefire ED2L Defender.

Other stuff that lives in the front pouches all the time include water purification tabs, foil blanket, earplugs, painkillers, a backup set of fire starters, "wet ones", and garbage bags. Not to mention a ss bottle.

The main compartement is now easy to swap out, but generally carries MREs or powerbars, binos, a small poncho. I can swap this stuff out and use it as a camera bag, or even drop in a small whitegas stove, fuel bottle, and kettle. It's lots of fun for the kids to have hot chocolate while were out geocaching or toboganning. Hopefully this gives you some ideas.

I have two actually. I'm going to set the "S" Type Jumbo I have for general woods bummin'. I've got a Janus Extension Pocket that I'll probably attach to it and possibly a Maxped M-2 & Reg Rollypoly.

I need to get a list of my gear made. I know I need to take my premade FAK and downsize because I bought too big when I got it.

I also want to make sure I have room to spare for snacks and whatnot.

The regular Jumbo I have is the one that sees vacation duty, sightseeing duty, etc.

So why would one choose the Fatboy over, say, a Gearslinger model?

I had a Malaga for a while. Recently I tried a modifiable active shooter bag and that didn't work out well. The problem is that I tend to overload things. The jumbo has a water bottle holder which is easily accessible, and a little room for the bare essentials. I am trying to limit the equipment I carry and become sufficient with it. It's all a user preference really. My favorite is a Pygmy Falcon 2, but then I load it up so it's not so pygmy any more.

How practical is the draw out of the CCW pouch on any of them? Or would you just consider them storage but not a viable holster from which any kind of speedy draw can be expected?

It's not a CCW pouch for me since mine is S-Type and I'm a righty. The jumbo's CCW pouch makes a great map holder. If your bag selection is on your strong side and you practice, it might be a viable carry option, but then you always have to keep the bag within your control.

True, I guess speed won't be a huge problem as I was looking for a day pack that would primarily see time on the Colorado Trail. The draw question was more for when I use it around town.

wow I got me a blue s type for EDC baby bag!I am going to get another one in orange for my personal EDC.I like the size of the collosus though.

is there any real difference between the "Jumbo" and the new "Jumbo EDC"?

Looks like there might be a couple of small changes to the insides but it looks like the main difference is they use 800 denier instead of 1000 so the fabric isn't quite as think making it approx 15% lighter (from the website).

I just recieved my Jumbo s type today in blue.I have one question that I just couldnt seem to answer actually going to the Maxped site. There is a flap attached to doubled up paracord going through a hole into the main compartment with a cinch in there. The flap has velcro on one side for stuff but I didnt see anywhere in the description about this flap. What it mainly used for? Thanks.DN

Look at the first pic of post #41. It goes over the water bottle to help hold it in OR if no bottle is being used, you can collapse the bottle holder, cinch the cord and "hide away" the bottle holder.

I got the wife the blue Jumbo for Christmas, I've had my "S" type in Foliage for 2 years. I carry the new RP knife in the CCW section and my CCW in it's IWB holster on my right hip. I use a 1st Aid pouch on the front strap, for fast use and the radio pouch on the rear strap (Ham UHF/VHF).
