" I, too, suspect the blade tangs are riding on bronze bearings inletted into the inner aspect of the backsprings. If so, then it is a "Perma-Lube" knife from the 1940 to 194? time frame.

Perma-Lube knives were identified by a bronze shield, which might be a Campers, a bar, an escutcheon or even a PocketEze.

Not all Perma-Lube knives were etched and not all had a pattern number that fell within the Perma-Lube series and all of them did not have a bronze shield.

The number on Duncan's knife might be 642214, the usual number for a 3 5/8" scout/utility or it might be something else.

As a Perma-Lube knife, it carries a significant premium over the others. They did not make very many and only for a short, but unknown length of time." end of Quote

Duncan, what an incredible collection, I am in awe!! Especially that Challenge, the bone is just beautiful.

Charlie, what an outstanding Remington scout!!

Eric

Theres a story behind this Knife, I am sure that the Etch has been "Re Etched" The Knife itself is good- but the fact that someone has etched it- almost makes the Knife a Fake- I am going to remove the etch making the Knife "Honest" once again.
I wont remove the etch until I revisit the Knife, all in all this Knife is nothing short of Spectacular!

Thank You Eric and Dave! Coming such Pillars of the Knife community- it means a lot- it was scary last Night- I was going through my Knives, then took my time through the Scout Boxes ..ummmmm there's a LOT of Scouts there!
I have another arrival that I bought a wee while ago- that needs some Cleaning with a Mineral Oil Rag- it has scratches and even a wee Grind Mark on the Blade- but all in all a Hang of a nice Remington!

Certainly are some superb examples Duncan, there is not a miss amongst them, they would really get my heart racing CE & CF these babies. Good job.:thumbsup:

Really great gathering you have there Duncan, thanks for sharing them. That Robeson is great with some interesting history.

Wow, so many fantastic knives you've posted!!!
It will take several trips to take in all these great examples here and in the old knives section.
I hope your Postman's back is OK. :)

Thanks for bringing those beauties over, Duncan!! A truly fine collection!!
You are working hard at your collection, and it is paying off!!

Too early for beer and pretzeis here, but I look forward to those pending pictures!!!:D

Many thanks Rusty1, pistonsandgears ( Lycky owner of the Great TC) Herder Charlie and Buzz for the kind comments.
Buzz- that MD is a great find - just how did you find that?

It was an auction find. Just kind of oddly listed. The listing, for some strange reason, did not have the words scout, camp or engineers in the title. And I jumped on it soon after it was listed, with a Buy It Now option. Basically, I got wicked lucky.

You have heard of collateral damage? These three are a collateral collection! (with some damage to my bank account!!
Seeking to replace some Scouts that went astray, I got a late offer of these three, AFTER I had replaced the missing knives! I could not refuse them!! I sold some other knives so came out roughly even, thank goodness!!
It was hard to refuse these!!
A Schrade Walden, a Cattaraugus and an Ulster; two NIB, and the Catt is unused, with no box.

The Catt has some interesting blade shapes, both the clip blade and the can opener!

Sweet Mamma!!!

I am sitting here shaking my head Charlie! I just dont know how you do it - what an amazing collection - once again..... stunning examples each and every one! not that all three by themselves would be the catch of the Year for me- but that Cat has to be a rare bird- like you say Charlie great blade shapes.
The Rover is an amazing piece - I had never seen the etch Rover until you displayed one recently.
That Cattaraugus is just incredible, simply incredible...but that Ulster is also a superb Knife- what a Honey- love everything about that Knife! The Bone The Blades, The Shield, The Etch...Whew!

Gentlemen, I am setting here reading this again and again and I am totally AWESTRUCK!!!! What a magnificent display of Scouts. I bow before you all!! :D Thank you all for sharing these for the rest of us mere mortals to see!:thumbsup:

Duncan, you can see why I couldn't refuse them!!
From one mere mortal to another, I am glad you like them Ron!!:D

I can resist anything except knife temptation!
