Not unlike WW2 USN issue:

I picked up this Cattaraugus scout this week... really a cool knife :) I wish the compass still worked on it but I don't think many survive this long so it wasn't a total disappointment. There is a banner etch or stamp on the main blade that reads "FORT PITT HDWE CO"... it's hard to see but the "negative effect" pic I took does show it a little. The patent number on the pile side tang was filed by Tint Champlin and issued Nov 4, 1914. The patent was for the knife with integrated compass :)

Awsome Catt! veitsi_poika veitsi_poika
Seems with the most recent survival/bushcraft craze button compasses show up on all kinda stuff. That Catt's over a century ahead of its time! Great bone on that, and nice full blades. When I see a knife that old with so little wear I can't help but think of all the hands its passed through. Hands that really didn't appreciate it, or just wasn't "right" for, until now;)

Thanks Duncan :) My thought process before I bought it was... "Aww, the compass doesn't function... Holy Cow look at that bone." SOLD. :D

The Camillus 1947 navy utility I recovered has a two piece can opener, but more conventional pattern. I've not used it to open a can though.
That looks great! I just recovered an old Camillus in bocote wood. It's the first time I've seen a two part can opener in person, so I'll have to give it a try this week. :)

If a sheepsfoot and caplifter/screwdriver combo makes a "scout" for GEC maybe this'n slip by here . :p I noticed GEC's caplifter blade is very similar in pattern to the old Camillus ones, wonder if their the inspiration:thumbsup:
