Let's see your Traditional Case knives, old to new.

Two Case 1199 SH R SS Whaler knives. They come with bails as seen in the first picture. As seen in the second picture, I've removed the bail on the second one. (SH = Sheepfoot; R = Bail; SS = Stainless) The covers on both knives are Walnut and the overall closed length is 4 1/8" with half-stops.

Thank you very much, Ed!
I haven't seen this "Jack knife like spring construction" on a canoe so far.
It does look very nice and fits this pattern also very well.
Great belt and pocket sheath btw.
Have a nice weekend,

Last week I bought my first ever Case knife... It is a 3375 CV Yellow Synthetic Large Stockman … A knowledgeable and respected BF member had just purchased the same model knife & gave it a nice report...….. So, respecting his opinion I shelled out Fifty Bucks and ordered one for myself...… It is a very nice knife with wonderful hollow ground blades..... I flushed out the manufacturing swarf, touched up the cutting edges and lubricated it...… Mechanically and functionally everything is fine..... Blade travel is fluid with proper camming into position(s)…….. Blade thicknesses behind the cutting bevels runs .020 - .022 inch thick... It is a wonderful slicer and shaves arm hair like my Muhle R41 with a Feather blade...….. ( You wet shavers will know what I'm talking about )……. Attached is a quickie cellphone snap with a tasteful vignette to accent its beauty...…….resized case.jpg

Well done. That's a heck of a way to get started with Case. They really nailed the traditional large stockman. Everything about the design is what I see in my mind's eye, when I consider this particular pattern. Case also seems to be quite consistent with their manufacturing of it. You can pretty much order one up, sight unseen, and know what you're going to get.

This is one of two Tru-Sharp Mini-Trappers that arrived yesterday. I'm really starting to warm up Cases's Bone Stag as a cover material. It definitely adds to the bulk in your pocket, like real stag, but it contributes equally to the grip, which I abundantly appreciate. Looks fantastic too.

I must say that Case appears to be getting very consistent with their manufacturing of late. Far better than I anticipated. All of my new knives are on par in terms of fit and finish. Yes I have my gripes about the level of polish on Case's blades, but once you get past some rounding, the knives really are quite exceptional to use. I'm even starting to warm up to the easy sharpening of their lower RC steels.

The gap between GEC and Case is definitely closing.
