Let's talk about the latest Northwoods buying process

What were the pirices on these? 139 for all burlap and linens? 199 for kudzu? I may need correcting.

And not sure on mammoth or sambar stag?

Also it sounded like there were some factory seconds how much were those discounted?

Does anyone know how many minutes this run sale lasted? No more than 5?

It was completely over at 8 minutes after.

I messed up and missed out LOL. I tried for a Mammoth, but there were only a few and I wanted to look them over more carefully. I got one in my cart, but couldn't check out fast enough. I next tried a Kudu, but it was snatched out of my cart. Tried for a second one and I think I would have had it, but I thought I was completely checked out - but after it was all over, I realized I had one more button to click. I was too distracted by watching the available knives dwindle quickly.

I can't complain though, I got a really nice Mammoth on the last drop without looking it over. Congrats to those who got one!

Red linen was $129, Burlap $139, Stag $169, Factory Seconds Kudu $169, Kudu $199, and I never even saw the Mammoth.

So true I pretty much say I’m going to pass every time and when the gates open I’m like a race horse chomping at the bit lol . I think I just try to talk myself out of it and never works .
I did the same with the bear lakes. “I’ll save my money, or I don’t need one, I have enough.” NOT. 4pm struck and where did I find myself? Hiding in the office at work dodging to the site on my iPhone, shaking from nerves and excitement trying to get one!!

LOL So true and would of been exactly the same for me except my job took me out in a area with no cell phone reception and couldn’t use my smart phone when the flood gates opened at 4pm . Did save some money though on the bright side :)
Did you end up scoring one ?

Aww sorry you missed it because of work, Thefactor. Being able to use the internet is half the battle. I did, tried for the kudo, but first cart steal, I quickly moved to the curaço-scored #3 out of the batch. Just got it today, it's beautiful. Like the Fremont, but love this better because I have, you know girl hands, being I'm a girl. I also got two fremonts before, but if I knew this was coming, I would have saved the $ from them and tried to grab more of these...
I must add, I also love the first run of bear lakes. I think that was one of my favorite looking pieces Northwoods put out. With out the bottom bolster, you have to take more care not to drop the bone ones, but they are handsome, graceful looking knives. Always a fave..

Any interest in trading a Fremont for a bear lake? I've been on a constant hunt for a OD green Fremont!

I was able to get a Smoke Burlap Bear Lake and am happy for that, but since this thread is about the buying process, I just want to comment. The idea of a drop where everyone has an equal chance is more than fair, but after seeing several individuals in different places able to get not just multiples, but multiples of the same covers, is just wrong. Since so many are chasing so few knives, I feel there should be some limits.

I have read numerous times that Dealers want to be fair. It’s hard to believe that with the current system. I have participated in drops where the dealers limit the amount, and attempts by the buyer to subvert this requirement will result in canceled orders. This is fair, and the numerous times that I didn’t get the item, left me with no bad feelings.

Anyway, I don’t expect or hope that this is going to change anyone’s opinion. I have more than enough knives. I was initially excited about entering the Traditional World. This has taken some of the fun away. I’m expressing this, because i just wanted to say it. I’ve observed that even in the GBU, some people get all bent out of shape, and get “holier than though” when someone is expressing their thoughts.

Finally, I would add that I’ve encountered some individuals whose kindness balances things out. I’m going to continue to partipate in the drops. I’m just not going to take it so seriously. Thank you for reading this.

Hi kaput-well, I, got a new curaco burlap, and have a first run stag, but would def consider for any of the other bear lakes, 1st, or second run.

Red linen was $129, Burlap $139, Stag $169, Factory Seconds Kudu $169, Kudu $199, and I never even saw the Mammoth.

Do you (or anyone) know how to tell that one is a second? Is the knife marked? And/or the bag label marked?

Thanks!

Whew! Over in about 4 minutes by my computer's clock. I was very briefly torn between the red linen and the cocobolo, but my previous Northwoods was a micarta so I went with wood this time around. The red linen sure did look nice, though. Grats to everyone quick enough on the draw to get one!

Wow! - I went on exactly when they came up @ 4:00 - checked out as fast as I could and they were all gone (less than 2 minutes)...based on what I've seen, post sale prices will be a bit much for a retiree, so I guess better luck another time!

Actually, there are usually some forum members selling at reasonable prices very soon after a drop like this. It's easy to get overextended and sometimes they want to get their dough back fast while at the same time doing a forum member a solid.

Maybe post a Want to Buy in your sig line or some such. This drop was bonkers for sure.
