Let's talk about the latest Northwoods buying process

Short answer; the factory can't produce more. To do so would mean neglecting their other customers.

I had zero issues, and really never have had. Except when my $#%^ browser goes berserk (I'm on PC). I'm not particularly young, nor fast. I've gotten Northwoods 3 of the 3 times I've tried. This last time, I was going for the red micarta. Just as I clicked the PP button, my browser decided to throw an apple pay button in place of the PP, so of course I clicked apple pay. By the time I hit the back button, it appeared the knife was gone. (I'm getting kind of flustered at this point). I clicked on my second choice of cocobolo (looks like everything else is gone), and at that point I see I have 2 items in my cart. I go to my cart (seconds are ticking away remember) and see that I have both red micarta and the wood. Now, I can easily buy both, but want to give other people a chance. So, taking a risk, I let go of the cocobolo, and proceeded to checkout - this time being very careful to click PP!

Of course, PP has now decided it's time for me to log in again. So, I log in figuring the knife is long gone. Click my payment method, and proceed back to the cart. At this point, a full 4 minutes has passed.

The finish page says I've got the knife! And, an email comes moments later. Lightning fast shipping as always, the knife is in my hands 2 days later.

Now, I fully understand resellers and makers deciding which is the best way to do this. Next to lottos, this is the best and fairest way for a 'drop' of knives. Plus, it appears they've fixed their previous cart issue - this is the first time I've gotten one in over a year - and if an old-fart fumbling around and screwing up and letting go of an extra knife in the cart isn't fair, I don't know what is!

I'm sorry there's jerks out there who buy these to flip at huge markups. I can't and won't do that myself. It was tempting to grab that second knife, but I don't need or want it - and would need to charge more to cover my shipping costs. Better to cut her loose in the cart for somebody else to snap up! :D I have noticed a slight slip in overall finish quality, and the slip case isn't nearly as nice as the old ones. On a positive, the slip case isn't as bulky as the old ones, so great for in-pocket carry.

Good luck on the next drop all you who missed out!

The second hand market prices can sometimes be pretty steep but also try not being from USA. Most wont even ship outside of the US. Not that have anything against people that won’t, be it
does make it hard as heck for other collectors around the world that love northwoods knives aswell.

For the 3 I have I’m more then grateful to all those that are willing to go that extra mile to ship outside the US.

Just for quick example go to eBay.ca type in northwoods then check eBay.com
You can see how much more selection there is on most any knife within the good ol USA.

Don’t stop making those beautiful knives America!!!

I've had comparatively good luck on the exchange here to get the 2 I have. A Fremont Jack in Mammoth and a Hawthorne Jack in Micarta.

But if you watch the sales ads you can see that most of them are tagged US only and they'll be snapped up in minutes. I have been able to negotiate with sellers that had CONUS in the ad but it had been up for a few days (a lifetime for most of those knives) to cover the extra shipping cost to get it to Canada via USPS.

I'm still holding out hope I'll see a Broadway Jack in red sawcut bone that needs rescuing someday but not holding my breath.

I think KSF handles this very well overall on the Northwoods slippies made by GEC from a business perspective. If I were in the business, I would want to buy and sell as quickly as possible to get a return on my investment rather than have 100's of the same knife sit in my warehouse hoping for someone to buy one after the initial rush to buy a new offering.

That said, I don't even try to buy one of the new Northwoods slippie offerings any more. Just not worth the effort it takes when I have many knives that I will never use.
