Lets talk GEC!

Pretty much any single blade with a Sheepsfoot is highly pinch-able.
As for two blades, anything with a E-Z Cutout and a short secondary will work.

I keep drooling over these Toms choice knives. Shame there impossible to find in Europe.

Very cool looking knife!

join some of the traditional groups on facebook, that will increase your chances of snagging a few. Some do make it over the pond, and there are thriving groups of GEC enthusiasts in the UK and Germany. I know the UK group did manage an SFO before the rules were changed. Boy that was a pricey one just cause it had to make the trip back over. There was also an exclusive gec from those in Europe.

Some US knife brands are impossible to find or if you do they ask a price way above the retail price. I don't have Facebook. I'll just keep my eyes open on eBay.

I can inagine and you should! As it's a very beautiful knife!
There's a few GEC retailers in France, Germany and England, but prices reflect shipping and custom fees (depends of the country) :(. Choice last a bit longer also.
Some US dealers make an effort to send to Old Continent, but you 've got to be quick (don't even dream of a 33:)) and then shipping can add a few, depending of the distance to PO?
Case is an easier... case. :)

Thanks for the messages on my profile. Case seems to be a little easier to find and even rough riders I can order via Amazon. But somehow GEC is a different story. Which is a shame as they are the most pretty looking knives imo.

think uk might have the worst on custom fees right? I know its enough to deter a lot of us from shipping overseas

French customs don't care of small parcels and I never paid any fees on knives. Who knows how long will this last?

When a seller ships a knife overseas the eventual custom fees of the country where the parcel is shipped have to be paid by the buyer, not by the seller. It has happened to me, the seller has never heard about it, it was my concern, not his. I make it a matter of principle. When the parcel has left the U.S. territory the seller has done what he had to do, he hasn't to pay.

I've been said recently that there is a U.S. law about the export of animal products (like bone, mother of pearl) which may be subject to U.S. taxes payable by the shipper. I don't have found any information about that.
Has someone heard about ? It could be a concern.

Dan.

It's been awhile since I've seen GEC keep their cards so close to their chests. With the #33s shipped and subsequently bought up, I am really curious to see what they are working on currently and what plans are in swing for the remainder of the year. We aren't even seeing progress pics for the #35 - the shot with the "Northwoods" blade even got pulled.

They did the run of Mudbugs in the dark. Folks are receiving their knives.

If anyone owns both a 93 and a 47 I'd be very curious to hear your comparison of the two patterns. We will probably be seeing the 47 coming out in the near future and I already own the 93, I'm on the fence if the 47 is worth going through the rat race to try and score.

Ah, that would make sense. Much like the Northwoods runs, they wouldn't be showing any pics of the Smith & Sons knife.

That said, if folks are getting their Mudbugs, that still begs the question as to what they are currently working on - maybe the Northwoods run?

That could be why the pic was pulled, once it was pointed out? And if that is the case, then the fact that those blades were there could indicate that's what they were doing next.

If we are speculating and we are, the word that they are having a disruption in their cow bone supply could give us some answers.
No bone needed for the mudbugs (micarta), and depending on the covers Jay picks/provides the Northwoods run could be run with no bone as well. No cow bone that is.

It is hard for me to compare my 47s and my 93s . The 47s have a Wharncliffe and a Pruner blade and my 93s have a Lambfoot and a Ramfoot blade . The 47 is actually a 74 with the blade on the other side for a Reverse Curved handle . If a 47 had a Sheepfoot Blade , it could be very nice . I have never found a Wharncliffe blade to be very useful to me . To some it is . If I did not have 2 of the 47 pattern in my collection , I would try to get some . IMHO the 93s that I have are more useful knives than the 47s that I have . But I have to tell you that the 47 Pruner , and pruner blades are useful , has some of the best Stag that I own on it and I will not use it because of that .

Well the market is speaking...the prices realized for Beer Scouts on the big auction site this past weekend were pretty large...so a flood of Beer Scouts and Crown Lifters are coming up for sale. The prices already bid are pretty high, even on one that is described as basically new but is clearly lacking its etch. I'm planning on passing on the Beer & Sausage Knife...if it follows the path of the BSK, flippers will be rejoicing.
