Lets talk GEC!

I was taking my post-work "silkwood shower" and didn't hear the notification. :(
I've got no hard feelings. If I see a GEC I want, in stock, at a fair price I can afford, I'll buy it. That's how I've accumulated my modest collection over the past decade.

If that's no longer possible in the future, I'll focus more on vintage knives, while still enjoying the pictures posted here. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, not stressful.

For the most part, getting the notification didnt mean much since I am home recovering from the second covid shot. The site was so overloaded that by the time i actually got a page to load it was on standby. To all those with faster internet,:rolleyes:

I know this is the GEC thread, but that Boker makes me swoon.

I was at my desk grading papers, the kids were gone for the day when the notification for the second drawing popped up. I was on within seconds put my email in and closed out. Feeling pretty good, I went out into the hallway to talk to some colleagues and totally missed the next notification! Didn’t find out about it until I got home an hour later!
Well at least my kids did well on their assignment!:)

Haha, I feel that. I was in the shower and got the notification for the drawing... Entered... And then started washing my hair. Got another notification and thought "surely there can't be ANOTHER drop". Jokes on me, lol.

I'm really curious to see the affect these ~$60 barlows are going to have on the market.

74 - failed
47 - failed
1st barlow drop - failed
2nd barlow drop - ?
85 canvas - standby
.
.
.
15 boys knife - reserved!

Whew. It took a minute, but I finally managed to get lucky. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that there is a strong temptation to go after barlows for trade fodder. People have a hard time letting go of older patterns like a 76 or a 55 without a high mark up or something that will garner it.

Well I missed the drawing notification completely until I just read your post. All good, I will have good juju the next time.:D

What's the difference between the TC Barlows from Mike's random drawing and the ones that were put on the early reserves?

I'm so far down the list I didn't even get a notification. None of them. Doesn't matter since I was getting an injection in my cervical spine, i.e. actual important stuff ;) and would have missed them anyway.

I bought another Case

So there :p

Viper84 Viper84 I think the early reserve Barlow had a higher production count where he could offer more to his customers and the random drawing count was lower for each Barlow

The early reserve was for the smooth autumn gold bone TC, and the drawing is for the glitter gold and Osage.

what he said ^

Getting knives for $60 from GEC and then listing and selling them on ebay for $260 each isn't a business though. That's just profiteering.

$260 is a couple hundred dollars low. What do you call it when flippers sell $63 TCs for $450+ on ebay? I call it criminal. If Bill Howard's intent is to lessen / slow flippers, it backfired big time. How naïve ... flippers love this pricing! If GEC cared about customers, they would sell direct to end users and price them market appropriate. Anything less supports flippers. Hope the folks who paid $480 for this run have serious buyer's remorse when they learn these knives are selling for $63. 800% markup. GEC makes them, GEC deserves the profit, raise, not lower, prices is the only way to stop this is ridiculousness ... screen capture from ebay sold listings.

Am appreciating @knifeswapper 's system more and more. Thanks Mike for your honesty. Too bad I was out for a walk when the email came, by the time I saw it, all gone.

hoo boy. I checked my mail at 1:14pm, (didn't see the telegram for some silly reason), saw that I had missed out on the glittergold/osage, and figured I was done for the day. Just checked my mail again at around 4 and saw the 1:16pm mail for reservations! I royally screwed the pooch on this one! haha!

Give a shout out to DLT for their honesty too. They blew the lid off the top that was already brewing.

Dang... That one completely slipped under my radar. What a hectic day...

There were 16 of Charlie's that had hammered pins - it was proving to be too much work so they finished the rest of the run with spun spins.
