Lets talk GEC!

Thoughts on the stamped wrench with the oily Creek bone? I personally love it – looks like a common manufacturer stamp - Like a “craftsman” or “snap on”.

I think it looks fine

I never lost my love of the brand, but it's going to take something special to get me off the fence.
The Osage Barlow is certainly something special, but that's such a long shot it's not worth leaving my perch.

agreed, its usually a single blade 15 or 48 or 77 that has my interest, end caps? you have my attention GEC, its time to reach out to the usual suspects. Ill come running. Most of last year's production was "oh yeah? Thats what theyre doing now eh? thats nice, Im sure someone wants that" to me.

Rereading my first post makes me want to clarify a bit... I wasn't unhappy with GECs its just that what they were making wasn't what I was looking for. John and Jack's post are where I'm at. Although I did come very close to a ebony #35 Churchill. And a #78 jack in ebony and Tidioute trim would have been hard for me to pass up.

With all the talk of 56/57/55 Spears, Wharncliffe, Clip let's not forget this neat 56 Half-Hawk Pruner, great build and W&T on these. I believe they even made an outlandish one in Micarta with 3 blades from the same end  thick... As a keen but actually lazy gardener;) I do find a lot of use for Pruner types.

Ha, far from it! :D I don’t know the exact number, but I know they’ve made well over 100 variations of the #25. ( CrowCounty CrowCounty might know the exact number, and is almost certainly the person closest to having them all.)

I last counted 226 variations of the #25 but I may be off by a few as every once in awhile I find another that was not listed in the production list. I am getting closer to having them all but still need around 50ish but I keep trying!! It's good to have goals!

So I'm not quite sure what has been going on in this thread, but let me make something clear.

Communications on this site are subject to the rules of the site. Conversations (PM's) may be private, but there is still an expectation that the forum posting rules apply. Insults are not acceptable. Email conversations, in contrast, do not take place on this site and the content is therefore completely up to the members.

A PM need not be friendly, but it does need to be reasonably polite. If somebody wants to tell another member via PM that the person has been placed on ignore, that's up to them. I don't recommend it, but it's not against the rules. But insulting somebody while notifying them is not within the site rules.

SteveC SteveC Yes, that Green Micarta suits the utilitarian look of the Tidioute, a fine pocket-knife. I really admired GEC for exhuming the Eureka from the graveyard of obscurity, a rare and unusual pattern and one of my GEC favourites. Lately, I don't carry or use a 2 blade Jack knife that much; my preferences are for singles, Stockmen or Opposite End single spring knives; but the Eureka always finds a place in my pocket, it's a useful pattern above all else.

Time they did a Eureka Stockman  or a Surveyor type.

Thanks, Will

Do you think a Clip will fit in the Well John ????
I'm no expert, but they've run #56's with a clip blade... so I'd think the #55 would work just fine too since it's the same frame.
Who knows, maybe they could flip the frame and try it reversed (or standard). :)

That's a beauty. I don't have any need for a pruner blade but they sure are nice to see in pictures.:thumbsup:

Man thats a cool knife. I would really love a GEC with a pruner blade, Ive got a case and a A.Wright but my GEC addiction has me yearning for another. Perhaps theyll throw one on a knife in the near future.

If Bills plan is to go down memory lane and crank out some popular patterns I sure would love to see another 38 grinling Whittler run.

Talk about a knife that is unobtainium in any handle material. I’ll even take it in glitter gold.

What is a surveyor type? I did a quick internet search, but just got a lot of hits for surveyors in various cities with "Eureka" in their name

It's a bit obscure as this became a collector term but it's an offshoot of the Cattle Knife, but it's swell centre can be 2 or 3 blades can be single-spring if 2 blades, often slant bolstered.

Queen Cutlery made one as a Railsplitter and I think it's 4 blades.

CASE Made a Humpbacked Stockman as they called it but it is a Surveyor type- Spear master.

What I envisage is a Clip master/Sheepfoot secondary on Swell Centre frame with slant bolsters, but that's just my deranged longing.

If you ask Charlie @waynorth he'll be able to give you a proper answer to this

In the meantime, an old thread but been looted of pix by P.Bucket etc...

Supposedly will never happen because making those was problematic.
