Lets talk GEC!

I like removable etches, so I'll take a dive for one.
Of course all we need is bails & chains on this... or whatever release, and we'd all have one at least.
I do like the B&C' s of course.

Urban Jack isn't for me with the comb, maybe caplifter or coping would do it. I will say I am not liking the new trend of not adding the entire pattern production schedule at one time.

But I got these two today and so impressed with everything about them. Already went through 2 apples with one.

Good looking pair. I like my little F&F Pocket Carver more than I thought I would. And while I do like the Muslin Micarta that I got, I kinda wish I'd picked up one in that Natural Linen as well; it looks really nice.

I thought the pattern looked stupid and pointless when I first saw it. Caved several months later and bought the muslin and was so impressed with the build. I thought like you and search several times for the linen and found someone that had one left a few days ago. I like this one alot more. Has a vintage look.

Even though these are already taking serious flack, something tells me that even though everyone is saying they don't like it, just like the Beer & Sausage knives, every one of these will sell instantly when they drop. I'm hoping one of 'em lands at my house for sure.

No doubt.

Personally, if given the opportunity, I would try and land one - but then I'd promptly try and trade for a B&S (I actually like that knife).

A bit of whimsy is good now and then - and it's certainly proven to be a good marketing approach. However, this is treading into a sort of market that gets hipsters maligned all the time. Offer a niche item, in limited quantities and a premium price, and watch the insta-fluencers scramble. It makes for a good social experiment but when I want a cutlery firm to just make knives, this sort of offering becomes disappointing.

I don't do much whittling/carving, but I used mine on Christmas morning and found it to be an ideal knife for opening gifts/packages. :D

I don't see any issues with that. Of course, my own view, if you already have faaaaar more traditionals than you need or will ever use (and given the state of this hobby with this company these days); a whimsical knife like this is a bit more attractive than yet another "popular" pattern where all drops get snapped up in roughly .038 seconds. So, I'm good with this knife, because the amusing thing is, everyone saying Bill Howard knows what he's doing? Well, of course he does. To me, this proves it. ;)

I think I'll pass on these urban jacks.

What I really want to see GEC make is a #15 jack with a sheepsfoot blade and some big 'ol honkin scissors like you get on the SAK Pioneer X. I think scissors would make any GEC knife extremely popular.

I wonder if GEC would ever do a knife with pipe tool accessories (pick and tamp)? That would be better than a comb, and I don't even own a pipe (but I'd buy one just to get the knife!).

you can use the awl from some of the harness jack or the 35 forum knife/Charlie special as a pipe tool
