Lets talk GEC!

is that spear a 72?! That is a VERY good looking knife. That thing looks like you could take a deer apart with it.
Yeah, that's a fat spear 72 and it could definitely tackle a deer. I'd like to get an 83 to match it.

So to the guys that heard the tombstone shield is unfinished. Are you sticking with that theory or are we pretty sure the tombstone is what we're getting?

Just getting in and pulled this from the box. Seems well done. The split liner(?) is a little proud between the springs and catches the finger slightly so I’ll probably take some wet sandpaper or something to it. Shield is inlayed well, which it seemed like the knives I bought last fall weren’t as well done there. Snap is perfect on the main, maybe a hair light on the secondaries. Overall, I’m very happy.

Two hours or two minutes, it makes no difference.

In a practical sense, yes.
... but I'd be way more disappointed if I missed it by 2 minutes.

Thanks again for selling me that 2017 BF knife, R8shell- I've been carrying it every day for the past 2 weeks, and I think of you when I use it!

I just picked up a new pattern for me, one of the #12s from 2019. I’ve been curious about this pattern for a long time... Figured I better grab one while there are still a few of this less-beloved pattern floating around with reasonable availability. And I’m very glad I did.

My example is pretty much a 10/10 in fit and finish. Backspring is flush open and closed, cam tang is quite smooth, coloring and jigging is right on, blade is centered, etc.

When I first received it I wasn’t sure what to make of it. It’s a big-ish knife. But it doesn’t carry big. I’ve carried it for a couple of days, giving my beloved #33 a break, and it’s really grown on me. Since I use a single blade for 99% of my cutting these days, it’s nice to have one from GEC that has an easy-pull cam tang, no protrusions to snag on clothes... just generally nice, and a bit unusual. I don’t know the exact history of this pattern, but it feels like a Yankee rendition of something Spanish-colonial.

Edited to add: did a quick bit of research. Seems GEC called the two blade a “powder horn” and the single a “toothpick.” I don’t advise picking your teeth with this sucker!
