Lets talk GEC!

Hoping you guys can help me out. I am new to GEC collecting and have never owned a 38 Whittler. I was lucky enough to get a Bloodwood and received the knife yesterday. It looks great but there is a gap in between the springs and a piece of the spring sticks out and remains out when the blade is closed. However I can push it down with my nail. Thinking I should return it. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

That gap is normal, and part of what makes these knives so special! The part that is sticking out is a wedge that separates the actual springs of the secondary blades, and then terminates to allow those springs to come together as "one" spring to support the main blade. It is quite an engineering feat to produce a wedged-spring whittler with such precision and fit and finish as GEC does... The knives without the wedge are much less desirable/special. It is slightly proud on this entire run, and GEC isn't going to do anything to alter the knife. It is perfectly as it should be and you have a winner to enjoy!

Just arrived from CK.
The pull and the snap on the main blade are both spectacular. Big fan!

Just got mine a day early from Mike and it's incredibly well done. Very impressed. Fit and finish is a touch better than my Grinling but I only have these to compare. Nice job GEC!

And the whole reason behind that wedge spring construction... Just look at how they nestled those blades in there so nicely. Outstanding!

Sorry to tell you that the knife is terminally flawed. There's no choice but to send it to me for proper disposal.

Sorry, just joking. ;) Assuming that you're talking about the gap between the two springs where the tapered liner ends, as others have said, that's how the knife is designed to function. If the tip of that liner keeps poking up enough to be uncomfortable, I don't think that's ideal, but will hopefully settle down once cleaned and worn in.

Enjoy your new knife!

I just received my 38 English Whittler as well and boy they really redeemed themselves with this one. I was a little bummed after receiving my 15 Sepia with horizontal wipe scratches and my 15 Autumn Bone with a fingernail wide gap in the transition. Not that it really mattered since I planned on using them.

Does anyone know if Collector Knives has invoiced the jigged bone? I was on stand by and I’m wondering if I missed out, or still have a chance.
