Lets talk GEC!

Just got mine a day early from Mike and it's incredibly well done. Very impressed. Fit and finish is a touch better than my Grinling but I only have these to compare. Nice job GEC!

And the whole reason behind that wedge spring construction... Just look at how they nestled those blades in there so nicely. Outstanding!

Does anyone know what's next on the chopping block for GEC after the Northfield Jigged Bone English Whittler's?
My best guess would be to keep an eye out on dealer's listings. There could be a pattern show up with no prior notice much like the the last run of hunters. Other than maybe a last minute "what's happening" pic. I've seen a lot of talk on here of "reserves" and the like. Maybe we're going to see a curve ball.

They'll be running the OKCA Club Knives, 38 whittlers with jigged bone and the beaver shields. We don't know the pattern following that one yet, though. Likely another regular run and then prep for the Rendezvous, which is in mid June this year. They'll likely do a Rendezvous special, and a handful of other *parts knives in addition to the next regular run.

Quick qustion: I've seen some pictures of the recent run of #15 with cocobolo scales where there are quite visible black marks on the wood around some of the pins (or rather, pinholes). To me, it looks like tiny marks left from hammering but I'm not sure and usually it is by the same pin on both sides of the knife. Can any of you knowledgeable gents here explain what causes those black marks?

Pics for reference.

Perhaps that’s a steel pin and the wood is having a reaction to oxidation?

That's interesting. They do look like little hammer marks, and usually anything from hammering would be buffed off when they haft that pin down, but if the hammering were deep enough maybe the buffer didn't take it out? I've seen polishing compound leave a blackish residue in micartas next to a pin or shield, but haven't seen that phenomenon on wood covers. can you feel anything around that pin?

Maybe the pin got hot while buffing and discolored the wood.

Not sad about it! Was just fixing to post as well!
