Lets talk GEC!

Missed out on the blue Fremonts, but I did score the cocobolo one I was eyeing in the gec site. Yay!

Sean, congrats. The FJ in cocobolo sure looks nice. They've really caught my eye with the cocobolo. I had never considered a FJ before now.

The email I got said the plain camel bone will go up sometime tonight or tomorrow and the green camel bone will be late this week.

OK, sweet, I was worried I had missed out, thanks.

I am dying to know what the mystery covers are?? :)

Actually, I'm good with it here.

"Stupid is as stupid does."

Picked a stupid name and got banned for it.
He can return if he picks a reasonable name.

I just checked the KSF website and there are no Freemont Jacks. From posts here is sounds like a shipment of these knives just arrived. Is this correct ?
If so how did you know that they had arrived ? Sounds like unless you got to KSF within about an hour of these knives being posted, you were 'skunked'; i.e. none left. So how did you find out the exact time to get one ??

You can email them and get on the notification list. They will let you know when they get added to the site.

O.K., thanks for this info.
I apologize for being so out of it, but how do you know that a shipment will be arriving so that you can ask to be put on the notification list ?
Or is it 'general', like put on a notification list for every Northwoods and every GEC ?

I bet if you emailed, or better yet, called KSF, they would tell you everything you'd like to know about their policies. Good luck!

I could, but if i did then i would be taking up their time and taking an employee away from packing up all the knives that are selling. If i can find out here on BF i will not cause a delay in someone's knife arrival.

I don't have any experience with either hawkbill or spey blades. Any thoughts about the usefulness of this blade combination as an EDC?

It says: "3 7/8″ closed length
budding and pruning knife"
How do you know Hawkbill & Spey ?
A Hawkbill on any 2 blade knife (Jack or Double End Jack) would make the handle uncomfortable when you were using the other blade.
A Spey is the best picnic blade. Only blade that spreads peanut butter well.

It'd be better to call the dealer. This forum is intended for knife discussion and not meant to be a place for commercial questions regarding ordering, inventory and all that other sales stuff.

The knife on the far left is a hawkbill. Sorry I don't have a photo with the main closed, but it's really not that terribly uncomfortable to use the pen blade. Of course, it doesn't feel as good as a single blade but it's still useful. YMMV.

A spear blade spreads peanut butter pretty well too!

The #38 John Chapman is GEC's version of a "farmer Jack". The knife was made for the very specific purposes of budding and grafting nursery stock. Once upon a time, before Lowes and WalMart were around to sell mass produced nursery stock, farmers had to propagate their own stock for their orchards and nuseries. Tha Hawkbill, they Spey blade and even the blade spine have very specific purposes for this. See the thread entitled the roosters are crowing for the farmers.
