Lets talk GEC!

Was just able to snag a real beauty tonight. Dang I wish I knew how to post pics.

Did you get #92? I was just about to click on that one but it did not let me cause it had just been snagged. If that was the one you got, it is extremely nice looking

Not sure if this is the proper thread to post this or not. I just received a 54 Moose and am not too sure if I'm happy with the fit and finish. Love the size, blades, and feel. Just not sure about how they finished it off. Here's pics of how much material they took off the scales and bolsters. Some fine scratches on a couple bolsters too. Its going to be carried and used, but should I worry about how thin everything got as far as chipping or cracking in years to come. Hate for these to be the first pics I post of a new knife:grumpy:

I'm unsure of what you're concerned about. Are you afraid that the cover material is too thin from the contouring?

I see what you mean.

The scales are asymetrically. But there are no visible gaps. What wood is used?

If it is ebony (for example) it would not bother me at all. On other woods, due to my to my few experiences, I would see how the wood will perform during use and carry.

If it were my knife; I would have realised it, but not to worry about. When you drop the knife on the ground (stone, concrete etc) accidentelly and the scales will crack I would send it in for repair.

Wood, used in knife handles used, has a "high breaking level" and is rather durable.

That's how it is with hand made traditionals, unique, and yours. If there are no gaps and the covers but up smooth against the bolster it's good in my book.

It is ebony. I was just taken back by the asymmetry on this one compared to my others. The metal of the bolster is a bit pround over the wood too. Nothing bad though. Just wonder why they were so heavy handed on the belts finishing them off. Guess I shouldn't be too concerned. Have to say I really like the way this feels in the hand. The pull on the spear is prob a 6-7 and the clip is an easy 8, especially going from the half stop to open. Not a nailbreaker by any means though. Thanks for the input. Need to get some goods pics for the Moose thread tomorrow when I have better light!!!

I've dropped my Ebony #22 countless times, often flinging it onto the concrete when I get out of my truck and have forgotten that it was on my lap. There's a scratch or two and a dent, but no cracks or malfunctions.

I hate to clutter the thread as well but any insight on where I can procure a TC Barlow would be a much appreciated PM. If this is the run that was booked months ago, I know where those came from.

And in an unrelated vein, the elephant ivory GEC-produced Northwoods are incredibly tempting, even at the premium they command. I'm a serial user, I'm afraid, and the thought of losing a $300 knife through a pocket hole is the stuff of nightmares.
