I highly recommend you do the tour in person someday. The videos are great but they cannot replace the hands on feeling you get from the factory tour. Do a Rendezvous some year. There are tons of things to do in this beautiful historic area and we almost always spend a week when we go. We love it so much we purchased a summer cabin in the area earlier this year. It's a fantastic place to get away from the daily rush. Glad to help if you have any questions.I mean on youtube videos, I would love to do it for real one day though.
I'm excited for these. I don't which handle material I like best though.
A run of 98s would be a DREAM, but I thought i heard through the grapevine somewhere that they were difficult to produce and probably wouldn't be made again. Amazing pic also!I just love a big 98 with some beautiful snakewood. I think we can agreewe would love to see this pattern produced again someday. View attachment 1678753
Pretty sure that was just the Texas Camp Knife versionA run of 98s would be a DREAM, but I thought i heard through the grapevine somewhere that they were difficult to produce and probably wouldn't be made again. Amazing pic also!
That's how I remember it. Just the 4 blade Texas Camp knife was difficult to produce.Pretty sure that was just the Texas Camp Knife version
I’m a little disappointed they didn’t include a shield on the marrow bone version. I wonder what the rationale behind that was? I think they look a lot more finished with the shield.
Maybe the same reason they no longer set shields on stag? Something about the irregular depth, I think.I’m a little disappointed they didn’t include a shield on the marrow bone version. I wonder what the rationale behind that was? I think they look a lot more finished with the shield.

Great little camp knife.
You are probably right, it probably is the same reason. Bill Howard had to do the stag shields for a few weeks and by the time the regular guy came back to work, Bill decided it was no longer necessary because it was hard to do.Maybe the same reason they no longer set shields on stag? His decision has not negatively affected sales while lowering the cost of goods sold. You are probably right, it probably is the same reason. The ”no more shield on stag“ explanation sounded like a lazy explanation. Bill Howard had to do the stag shields for a few weeks and by the time the regular guy came back to work, Bill decided it was no longer necessary because it was hard to do.
I don’t think anyone seriously holds a grudge and we all understand the economics of it…. Doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed a little whinge once in awhile over a very real case of a beloved company cutting a (small) corner in the name of production economy. We are all grateful they haven’t cut more! That being said, I kinda prefer the look of shieldless stag over the bulbous UnXLd shield that used to be de rigeur on those. His decision has not negatively affected sales while lowering the cost of goods sold.Sounds like a business decision. Every other knife maker has either left, makes a sub par product, or has just gone out of business, yet everyone wants the last one to make business decisions on their personal hurt feelings who cares if they survive after I get my way.
No issues with wanting something that is no longer available, calling someone's explanation "lazy" is where the issue arises.I don’t think anyone seriously holds a grudge and we all understand the economics of it….
