Lets talk GEC!

Picture grips were seen on service issue .45s in WWII. Clear celluloid and the GI could slip a photo underneath, often a wife or girlfriend but pin-ups were found too.

My father-in-law had a beautiful Remington Rand 1911 in the original holster from WW2. He would get it out and he and I would talk about it, and the war. When he passed away, one of my inlaws took it to a gun shop and sold it for $50 because, "It wasn't worth anything." It still burns me up to this day.

Thank you! I can't tell you how many vexillological arguments I've had to listen to about this subject.

If I'm reading the photos correctly, these flag handles seem to be some kind of flat print, covered with clear acrylic. There was a company (Novelty Cutlery, Canton) back at the turn of the last century, that sold knives with custom handles using photographs under celluloid. Sometimes wholesome family photos, sometimes more risque subjects. So yes, it seems like a novelty souvenir, but there's also a legitimate nostalgia factor. How cool would it be to have a GEC with your own choice of image under the looking glass covers?

I had to google vexillological I thought it meant you where angry. 😆

Thanks for expanding my vocabulary, Rachel!:cool::cool::thumbsup: 🤓
I knew the "-ology" suffix and several examples, but had never encountered "vexillology" before.
(Then I went to Google, and to my dismay discovered that I had no idea of how many "ology" words there are:

Me too.

What is the opinion of the GEC 745120 Mustang is it a nail breaker, how easy is it to open?

Is it a nice/desirable knife in general terms?

It's a #73 with a more rounded handle design.
The things that apply to the #73 should also apply to the #74.

I have a couple of the 2020 74 Mustangs. I have the brown burlap micarta in my EDC rotation and carry it often. It is by no means a nail breaker. It has a smooth but very nice walk and talk, with an excellent half stop. The blade is a thin ground mild drop point that will take a razors edge. It is thin and fairly light and feels great in hand, and rides nicely in the pocket. It is a great pattern in my mind.

In addition to what has been stated above, I would add that the pull is slightly stronger than the red/black micarta that you already have, but not a nail breaker by any means. It would be tough to open by pinching the blade like you are able to do on your 86, though.

Thanks for all the reply's, I must say I like the look of it.

I have been offered this exact model as a trade for my Northwoods Fall Creek (love it but I am in England).

Without discussing money, would you say it was a fair and useful swap?

I just worry as I had one GEC that I loved but needed a screwdriver to open the blades,I sold it at a loss in the end.

That is a question only you can decide. 😉

Personally, I would do it as the 74 is my favorite pattern and I don’t care for the fall creek that much. YMMV
