Lets talk GEC!

Thanks for all the reply's, I must say I like the look of it.

I have been offered this exact model as a trade for my Northwoods Fall Creek (love it but I am in England).

Without discussing money, would you say it was a fair and useful swap?

I just worry as I had one GEC that I loved but needed a screwdriver to open the blades,I sold it at a loss in the end.
Well, one is a fixed blade, and one a folder. Can you not carry fixed blades in England? Northwood's are very nice knives, but so is the 74. If it is for carry, I would do the 74 personally. You won't need another tool to open it. They generally have excellent action.

The 74 is a great knife. If you like the 73 you have, you’ll like the 74.

I watched videos on youtube one said the blade tip was proud on his?

We can carry fixed blades if we have a good reason, its not defined and can/will lead to trouble.

No problem if I stay in my garden though 🤣

Blade tips can come proud on folders. Neither of my 74's are. Maybe after a few more sharpening's, but just lower the kick a little then. Maybe you can get the other party to take a close up of that if it's a real concern. Pretty easy fix though.

The blades are proud on all of his knives for some reason. Unluckiest dude in the world.
Now that Jiki mentioned this, I know who he's referring to. Just because a tip isn't sunk down in the well, doesn't mean it's proud. If it's not catching on everything, don't worry about it.

I was amazed to see him file down the kick with a SAK nail file,I had no idea the file was that good on metal.

It’s also listed as a 77 Tidioute Barlow. That knife has never been made - only Northfield barlows on the 77 frame.
It’s also listed just before the #15 Huckleberry Boys Knife.
My guess was that it was meant to say #15 Tidioute Barlow, which were released just before the 15 cocobolo boys knives at the start of the year.

I’d rather have a 74 than a Northwoods fixed blade, but that’s just me. My 73 is a fantastic knife and the 74 would be every bit as good. And if you have two similar knives you’ll feel less guilty about using one of them.
