Lets talk GEC!

I just noticed the ^% Ben Hogan is in 420HC. Did they switch over from 440C?
They've used 420HC in the past on knives I'm assuming they wanted to be more stainless, some of the F&F knives and fish knives I believe. It wasn't as frequent I don't think as 440C was, but 440C takes a lot more to machine. We don't think of it as a "super steel" now, but 440C was the first super steel.

Yes, now looking deeper, it looks like they have used it recently as well on some less expensive models like the fruit knife and keychain knife. 440C is old school, but alright for what it is. GEC does a pretty good job with it, and Randall still uses it in the "B" version. I'm not a fan of 420 though.

All the 420HC I've used performs about like 1095 but it sharpens a lil different and I can see why some folks don't like it. There are things I don't like about 440C, especially the way it sharpens.

420 is not the same as 420HC. Buck's 420HC outdoes most of the 440C I've ever had. (I don't own any stainless GECs yet, so no opinion on how theirs does.)

Oiled and cleaned the GEC collection last night. I got my oil field jack about 2-1/2 years ago…. And now this? Oh someone help me (who am I kidding, I’m too far gone).

Cheers to all in this community and ‘on the porch’. I’ve enjoyed the last 2+ years on this forum and look forward to many more years to come. While this collection may pale in comparison to many - I hope you enjoy!

Thanks Harry! Too many years though; I may end up on ‘hoarders’ 😆

This is my first GEC. My Instagram name is gatorloki49 so I figured a gator to be in my future. By the way, the fit and finish are astounding.
Welcome to the dark side gator man.

Very nice collection, thanks for sharing it.
😎👍
Thanks Todd!

Well folks, I totally admire how GEC does a raffle for the wounded warriors every year. It's a beautiful looking knife, but has me scratching my head. Imitation stag? I think this really tells the tale of how hard it is to get stag right now. We're only talking 2 knives. I may be missing something and there's another reason for this. It's not even bone stag. What is imitation stag? Themoplastic? I'll buy a round of tickets for the cause, but it just surprises me.
