Lets talk GEC!

98 Texas camp knife?

I gave up on that dream a few years ago………
Now that would be bigger, both figuratively and literally. I was kidding about the trapper. I just don't have interest in that so I don't think about those being run. I do think they are being extraordinarily quiet though and that usually means an Internet breaker, even with the rendezvous coming up.

I think now that they're done with the crazy-ness of the rendezvous that's a safe assumption. Hopefully this week!

i wonder if theyll ever redesign the clip for the 14 just like the upgrades the 15, and 77 eventually received. the 86 seemed to have been born with the more enhanced belly clip 🤔

I am not sure I know what you mean. Please educate me.

Here are two versions of the clip blade: from 2014, and from 2016. It's a matter of personal preference, but I don't consider it an upgrade.

Thanks for that. I feel like the 14 clip looks like the bottom one, except a little different long pull.

Any idea if/when we'll see another run of the #21 Bull Busters? I have terrible luck with them. My first was stolen out of checked luggage by the TSA. My second was the best knife I've ever had. Took it on field ops, busted up my first three deer and many hogs, was my primary daily kitchen knife, saw a TON of use over two years and disappeared during a move. I got it in 2018 or 2019 before GEC became unobtainium. I had no clue their dress knives were such huge sellers. I called GEC and the lady told me "we don't make the same thing over and over but it will probably be back, but with different t features like a second blade." Made me feel guilty for asking. I'm not a collector, this is a field and home knife for me and I'm not willing to pay $270 on ebay for a $65 work knife. Any place that will put me on a waiting list? Any good alternatives that aren't Case?

I think the only issue with a Case Sodbuster is a general issue some, myself included, have with Case in that being the hardness/heat treat used often leaves them softer than some of us nuts like for our blades. If I compare a Case edge to Buck I tend to find Buck holds up longer and is not any more difficult to sharpen.

I've never tried Buck's Carbon Steel, so I can't compare them.
I do know that Case's CV needs a little more frequent sharpening than GEC's 1095, but not enough to make a huge difference.

I sent you a message on your profile.

Interesting. Generally it has been true that they don’t make the exact same knife again, but that has never really applied to the F&F line. They’ve made identical #71s and #21s (OD Linen Micarta, Orange Delrin, etc.) several times. For a while they were doing #71s at least every other year. The #21s have come less frequently; most recent was early 2019, and before that I want to say it was 2014.

I thought only 77 got an upgrade eventually. What was the 15's one?

Well, I missed the 65 drop today. I didn’t think I’d want one, but the horse apple version I saw was really good looking. And now I’m seeing the fish knife … tres cool … hope I can get lucky!

I heard from a guy that heard from a guy that heard from a guy… someone saw a few blades I guess at the rendezvous. Whether they were test blades, sfo blades, just for fun blades, or production run after the 65’s I know not. I’d expect after they announce the white bone 65’s and ship the fish knife they’ll announce the next pattern.
