Lets talk GEC!

Well, I suppose I do always have my dealer hand select a perfect example so that may factor into my personal experience with GEC.

😁

Every knife should cut, so badly sharpened knife is always an issue, I suppose.

If a knife is truly "badly sharpened" like a wavy edge or no edge, then it should go back to the factory.

With all due respect to the GEC cutlers i would prefer they let the blades unsharpened. I don't expect them to know the kind of edge i like to use which isn't anyway the one everybody like.

Dan.

Back to what's at the end of the hall - might the abundance of Panama hats indicate a Panama Trapper a la Case?

Well, nowadays they actually make a decent edge with their CNC, very narrow edge bevels.

I’ve always appreciated that GEC doesn’t overdo it on sharpening. Their blades are thin behind the edge and usually ground at an angle slightly more obtuse than I might use myself, which makes sharpening them to my liking an easy task. I usually do it before I drop one in my pocket for the first time.

No, but I don't have much of them really.

Agreed. Some people like their edge to be razor sharp and mirror polished, that's their habits not manufacturer's oversight. But maybe F ferdiad got some bad luck there too.
Bad luck, no! I have the pleasure of owning 14 GECs! I’ve wondered if they had some staffing issues during covid, where maybe they had some apprentices working. I don’t expect my knives to come Taichung Spyderco or Ritter GSK sharp, but I do expect decent, even bevels and somewhat sharp. My 36s were every bit as sharp as any Taichung Spydie, which exceeded my expectations.
Half of my GECs are work knives, so a little issue here and there doesnt bother me too much. The 86 Angus and the Rosewood 73 are some of the beat working knives I have ever owned.

A new clue… cattle outside and a cowboy and bull playing cards and drinking inside. It’s hard to read what’s on the bottle.
