My favorite shielded stag...

Got my Shaffer whittler and absolutely love this knife … unfortunately it fell out of my pocket and scratch up the bolster pretty bad. Any thoughts on how to fix?

Nice Stag is always beautiful, but a shield makes a knife look complete. And if the Stag isn’t so nice a shield can make the knife look much better.

Incredible knives JW225 JW225 and madebyhand madebyhand !
You make my point beautifully btb01 btb01 !
I certainly agree with you on the shield and those are some great looking knives my friend .

Every stag knife I have seen, I imagine the knife without the shield. So much better ! The natural beauty of the stag, unadorned, unmolested, in all it's glory, to my eyes is so much better. For example, the 1st picture VS the 2nd picture. I will take the 2nd picture version every time.

Shields are great, shields do add to the beauty of GEC knives. But, if I had a choice. No shield, each and every time.

Surface scratches can be easily polished out of a nickel silver bolster using a suitable metal polish and a soft (i.e. non-scratchy) cloth. I use Autosol - I'm told in the US Flitz is popular, and Case sell their own product which works well too.

If you've dented the bolster, or if it has deep scratches, then a different kind of fix would be needed. Perhaps post a picture of the damage and more qualified minds on here can advise?

But at least the bolster has done its job! Part of its function being to protect the knife from more serious damage.
