Lets talk GEC!

Hey guys, checking back in on the GEC #21 Bull Buster.

Any idea if there's going to be another run? I called a while back, and the lady on the phone curtly said they "don't just make the same model over and over". Maybe they get a lot of calls from collectors. My Bull Buster odyssey has been a wild one. I got one in 2017 for hunting, promptly had it stolen by TSA from checked luggage, got another one that I used to process a dozen animals over three years as well as daily use in the kitchen and at work. It disappeared during a move and I've been virtually obsessed with replacing it. It is not a logical pursuit, but I can't help myself, it was the PERFECT work knife.

If anyone is willing to sell/trade theirs, I have some nice knives and a lot of interesting/valuable gun parts/accessories. How's the fit and finish on the Case?

Is it worth contacting any retailers and asking if they'd hold one for me the next drop, if there is any?

Thanks

There are a lot of readily available knives that are clones of what you want...... BUT, if your heart is set on the ones you lost, keep your eyes on the secondary market..... They show up quite often....

GEC runs patterns when Bill decides to run something.... There is no particular rhyme or reason....

You might want to post on the WTB sub forum. Good luck!

Will they run the Bull Buster again? Almost certainly. When will they run it? Who knows.

They tend to do the smaller #71 Bull Nose more often — for a while they were doing a run of those just about every year — but the Bull Buster runs have been less frequent, with the most recent runs in 2019 and 2015.

Thanks guys. I'll try the WTB here, I see GECs are posted frequently at fair prices which is surprising. Used Bull Busters go for ~$200 on Ebay when they can be found or $300 new... insane.

All red except for one Hemlock “Green,” right Jim, Jiki Jiki ? I believe they were afraid to tell us it was red for fear of losing the vote to pinkophobes. Just kidding. It is possible someone might have asked Bill Howard to go heavy on the red while mixing his brew. Perhaps he did it on his own or, most likely, it was just the way the colors blended. Regardless, it is the best looking and most red Hemlock “Green” that I have seen. Whatever the color, that Barlow is the best Forum Knife of them all in my opinion. (And also the best 86 version!) What a knife! One for the ages, and one of Charlie’s greatest creations among so many stellar knives. Well done, waynorth waynorth !

Those 86’s are the best for sure but it is hard to beat a 15 clip.

Yep part of the fun, wipe it dry when finished cutting and put some mineral oil on it that evening to prevent rust, the patina is character rust is neglect.

Olive oil only goes rancid if you leave it on the knife unused for a long period of time, not recommended for 'museum storage' Otherwise it's perfectly Ok with frequent use, it's also useful for Horn handles, but then, GEC's foray into Horn handles ended long ago.

Nice to see pix of people using their GECs lately

I think this is an appropriate place to ask this question. Pardon my GEC ignorance (naivety?).

My favorite pattern is the stockman. My favorite EDC size is around 3.5 inches. I'm not a big fan of cigar style frames and prefer something more serpentine-like on my stockmans. Going even further, I like square (and preferably pinched!) bolsters. Think Schrade Old Timer 34OT...

I searched around on these forums and poked around the GEC website. The only 3.5" stockmans I've been able to find are the 68 and the 66, I think? I was really surprised there wasn't more 3.5" stockman patterns! The 66 calf roper fits nearly all criteria of my "dream" GEC knife; the only thing missing being the square bolsters. Am I missing any existing patterns or do I simply need to wait and pray that GEC eventually does a run for my "dream" slipjoint? 😅
