My best guess is it’s something to fill the gaps. The shield cuts are usually pretty close, but rarely completely perfect.
This was my understanding as well. Peening the pins should make it impossible for things to come loose and (I imagine) when done properly is infinitely more secure than glue. I always thought the glue was to hide gaps and imperfections. But, honestly, I'm no knife maker/modder. I'd defer to someone with more experience.

EDIT: I also think this is why we like pinned shields instead of glued ones. Peening is just more secure.

This 470124 in Black Plum Jigged Bone just got dropped off. In indoor light, it appears black. In Miami sunshine though, the plum comes into its own.

It is nice to see gec is putting out more 47's,give those a chance who didn't get one a chance, unfortunately no more black plumb.im surprised this isn't a more popular pattern.but hey more for us 😉
