Lets talk GEC!

They are very similar. On my very subjective scale of 1-10, I put them at about a 6, very smooth on both blades and excellent snap all around. I'd say the 2017 is a bit smoother but I have used and carried it so it's broken in a bit.

Im glad to hear that actually especially since certain patterns have experienced some wildly different pull variations when they were rerun? reran? idk the proper term 🤣

I was having a heck of a time trying to get some good shots. The wood on mine is quite a bit darker than yours, though I can see hints of brown in direct sunlight.

A fine piece though. Shown here with Mike's 2017 SFO on the same frame.

I can tell you like that pattern also, Dylan!! ;)
Thanks for showing us!!

There is something special about the lines of a Wharncliff Trapper. One of the most attractive patterns in my opinion. It is no surprise that Tony Bose favored it. The GEC version is different but still compares favorably. They have a great source of African Blackwood and Ebony. It is usually extremely dark and buttery. My favorite handle materials.

Kudos to Mike knifeswapper knifeswapper . He and Charlie, waynorth waynorth , always add a master’s touch to their SFO’s that elevate them above the regular runs. Charlie, your scanner creates a special look. Even new knives look vintage.

I thought I was pretty much on the sidelines with GEC, but with the recent 39’s, 78’s, and upcoming 32’s, I am definitely back in the game. And that is without even mentioning Charlie’s Waynorth 81 which will certainly be one for the history books!

Nice pair Pàdruig Pàdruig . Beautiful photograph Jeff, black mamba black mamba !

Mike Latham's Slim Wharncliff Trapper

I believe Mike described this as the "Improved Trapper."

Here's an article from about a month ago on rebuilding efforts in Sulphur and Marietta OK:

I'm looking forward to the upcoming 81 run. Charlie's SFO looks outstanding and it has me curious if the general releases will be of a similar combination or if we might see a full Stockman this time around. I have an 81 Bull Moose and a Coon Skinner but no Abilene yet. It would be great to fill that particular void.

Where can we view these and where are they mentioned?

Fine knives, Greg ( Leslie Tomville Leslie Tomville ) and Jeff ( black mamba black mamba )!

The Wharncliffe Trapper (or Improved Trapper) is a favorite pattern of mine, though I don't have many examples quite yet. The Case/Bose iteration is a bit shorter at around 3 5/8" closed (not a precise measurement) and it's certainly heavier but I love it. I'd love to find a Case/Bose Slimline Trapper but I don't see them available too often.

GEC does a remarkable job on this pattern. It's elegant, lean, and very useful.

(Please pardon the single blade in Bloodwood)

Yes Jeff, black mamba black mamba , the Case/Bose Wharncliff Trapper is 3 5/8 as Dylan indicated. And I love that Acrylic Improved Trapper by the way!

You are correct Dylan, Pàdruig Pàdruig , l also find the Case/Bose WT to be a bit too heavy. However, the lighter weight of the Ebony scales helps to make it more comfortable to carry than the Jigged Bone version. I noticed the same thing with Charlie’s Rider by CC. The Ebony version is noticeably lighter than the Bone version. It makes a big difference in a large knife like the 86 pattern.

Beautiful set of knives JW225 JW225 !
