Lets talk GEC!

awesome, thanks. i wonder what theyd say if I emailed them really nicely and asked if they can make something exactly like the 2014 bf knife but with some other handle material :D

mrknife: you could start a new thread showing the 2014 BF knife and then other knives with the type of handle material you like to see the knife hafted with. Then ask: "Would buy this knife if offered by GEC with these handle materials".
If you get quite a few saying "yes", then email GEC with a link to your thread. This would be more likely to influence their decision than just an email saying you would like to see these knives made.

a fantastic suggestion! i just missed the 2014 blade forums knife again by 40 minutes this time :(

The 2014 BF knife was the only single-blade 77 made with a clip-point blade that I am aware of. The recent run of NF Barlows on the 77 frame included some spear-point single-blade knives, but unless you were in the pre-order for those you may have to wait to see if any show up on the Exchange.

One of the things you just have to learn to live with about GEC knives is that they have a limited production capacity and do not have a set of regularly produced patterns. If you miss a run, it may be years or never before it comes around again. They may never make a knife in the exact combo of pattern, blade combination, and handle material you want.

The 77 pattern is a pretty good seller, at least in the SFO variety, so maybe there will be another run of those next year in your desired configuration. Or maybe not.

thats precisely why I want it so much! its got everything I want in a gec, end caps, one big clip blade. that is the lesson 2dead try to explain to me about the #48 single blades that i like so much. they may or may not make something again for a year or even years. its incredibly frustrating to miss the 2014 bf knife on the fs. every time i miss it i wonder why im not watching for sale like a hawk. the seller changed it to sold so i didnt even get to see the price either.

Have you posted in the "Wanted" section? If not, might be worth a shot.

the wanted section is always a bit confusing to me, there are rarely posts there

Someone posted about that a few weeks ago. As I understand it, Registered Users can only see their own posts. Since they aren't permitted to sell on the forums, they aren't permitted to see who's looking for what. I see hundreds, if not thousands, of posts in the Wanted section and I've sold several knives as a result. Just make sure you subscribe to the thread so you will be notified if someone replies.

To stay on topic, here's a photo of my most recently acquired GEC knife. 76 Western Outlaw.

ah i see, that explains a lot, i only made a post there because it would allow me to provide feedback for those who approach me in emails to sell me knives.

I love this knife! I have the same exact one. I got some professional grade brown leather dye and I was thinking about making it into 'rotten banana bone..... Never been able to find one of those for sale.

It really is a sweet knife, Steve. The walk and talk on mine is superb. I decided that I wanted another GEC knife so I looked through all the patterns on the GEC website. This is the one I decided on. It was the only Yellow Rose Western Outlaw I could find and I'm glad I snatched it up when I did. Couldn't believe there was still one left actually.

I would be very interested in seeing your results if you decide to go for it.

That's a darn fine lookin knife Calamander! I really like the spey on that pattern. Looks like you do too!

Not to change the subject, but I'm really looking forward to the new run of 77's heading down the line now. I'm a sucker for a spear with a long pull.

I must say, I prefer the #78 American Jack over the #77. Interestingly enough, the handle is slightly longer than the 77 and the blade a hair shorter, but it's also more stout with a heavier pull. The pen is also longer. I read here somewhere that this was originally supposed to be the pattern that is the 77 Barlow, but things changed. I think most folks prefer the lighter pull. Unfortunately, the 78's had rather bland handle cover options, but the African Blackwoods are mighty fine!

At any rate, I'm in for a Washington Jack and I've got $ burning a hole in my pocket for a 77 northfield. I can't wait to see what jig bone they're going to use.

Here's what I get to add to.

I forgot to mention that I also love the pen in front of the main on the 78. What a fantastic knife!

Mr Knife there is one for sale right now on the exchange.. (hope I am not breaking any rules saying so)

there were single blade clip 77 barlows in the previous run. Not the spear run that's happening now, but the previous run had sheepsfoot, clip, and wharncliffe blades available all in single blade.
