Lets talk GEC!

Laying one knife directly on top of the other doesn't make a very good picture to determine the differences in width so I set them on a ruler..... this way you can directly compare your own. The 15's clip is actually about 1/16" wider than the 65, at the widest point.

Hope this works!

hey any chance you got a mako to compare with that ben hogan?

This is all I have at the moment. The Mako, Ben Hogan & Babylon Special all have essentially the same blades. I don't recall if the handle on the Mako and Ben Hogan are exactly the same length. The picture here is at a slight angle so the knives at the bottom look longer. At any rate, the Ben Hogan is much more comfortable in hand.

If you're talking about the one in the above pic, it's actually an acrylic. GEC calls it Seashell Perylic. It looks pretty nifty in bright light!
Oh, I thought it was the "primitive" or "calico" bone, whichever the Hogan was in. Still, great looking knife!

much obliged! theres 2 makos on the for sale section and i was really tempted because of the price. but i ended up getting a stag ben hogan. very excited, cause i was thinking about it for months now. how do you like the spear point? also, the blade on the mako looks slightly wider? or is it a perception thing because of the angle?

I have a spear point Hogan. I like it a lot, really useful. Great for getting to the bottom of jars and slicing thicker stuff. I have wanted to get a clip point though.

The Hogan long pull spear point with end caps is on my "will buy" list if it is ever offered in stainless.

theres a used one for sale and i pmed the seller on the forsale section, i cant bring myself to use a new one, but that old one, id certainly check it out

whats the opinion on the lockback on the babylon hill special. in some pictures almost looks like its sticking out a little bit of the depression cut for the lock bar?

The locks on my Babylon's are slightly proud of the knife back. There is also about an 1/8" gap between the lock bar and the cut out which is part of the design.

thanks. i love the top bolster on the babylon hill special more than i do on the regular ben hogan, which has more of a copperhead appearance. do you notice if this affects your grip on the knife. do you choke up on your grip to a point where it is a concern?

So, I want to take a moment to congratulate GEC on their superior customer service. I recently traded for a nice cocobolo #72 wharnie that had some serious "lock back wobble/play". When I called Chris she swiftly told me to send it in and that they would take care of it. She warned me up front that it would be several weeks at minimum as they were busy. I was totally fine with that and understood. Well yesterday I received my knife and was happy to find a new lock bar all together and no play at all. This was a great experience and I wish that a certain other cutlery company we all love and hate would follow suit. Thanks GEC!
