Lets talk GEC!

I love my GEC Sheepsfeet. They're easy to strop, and they cut apples and open boxes with ease. I also like spearpoints, and am currently shopping for one of the 77 spears.

My second hand SF stag 77 is probably my favorite knife at the moment. The bolsters are softening into a nice matte finish and the stag is getting some beautiful browns, grays and even reds in it.

Finally got around to taking a pic of my 3rd #12 pattern. Love the looks of these knives, and they are great users too. Never understood why they were not as popular as some of the other patterns. Here they all are:

#12 Toothpick swedged blade, stag:

#12 Toothpick, sabre-grind blade, blood red jigged bone:

#12 Powderhorn Jack, regular clip and pen, copperhead jigged bone:

Beautiful knife you have there. You may have just inspired me to release my 77 spear stag from the tube for its first use.
We will see in the morning.

ive been following the saturday stag, and it seems the stag seems to change as you fondle/carry

I think it changes in a good way . Most of the Stag that I have is Burnt Stag and the wear on the stag high spots takes off some black . I also see some color change in the white colors start to change to a creamier color. Right now I am away from being able to post some before and afters of my 73 which I have carried every day since I got it.

I know this is a talk gec thread, there have been a few threads on stag change, but for the fun of it. :D

First use stag state

A year later

That blood red jigged bone #12 is a hawt knife, man. I haven't been able to convince myself to carry mine, but I look at it often.

And I'm a "Why own a knife that you don't carry?" type of guy.

Has GEC ever done a #15 in a single Spear, bear head, in Antique Amber Jig Bone?

If so, any other details or model number so I can track one down?

Joe This might come close, pretty sure there was a Spear version. I've been annoyed that I didn't choose the Red version and been looking for one to trade for ages.

I don't recall a knife with those specific features, but here is a (partial?) list of the Boy's Knives: http://greateasterncutlery.net/blog/patterns/01-15/15-huckleberry-boys-knife/

Finding any of the older versions would probably be possible only on the secondary market, but there are still a few more 'recent production' HBK's on dealer's shelves. :)

Thanks Barry...once it loaded, that was exactly what I was trying to find. (I wasn't patient enough when I first looked).

Thanks again.

Joe

I really like most GEC folders, but man their fixed blades just do nothing for me for the most part. Am I alone in that opinion?

I don't own any but I'll admit that despite the appearance of being lackluster they look very useful for their intended purposes. Some of the hunting fixed blades look like they can go to work.
