Lets talk GEC!

Why no GEC forum in the Manufacturers Forum area?? Does anyone from GEC pay attention here?? Not trying to be a wize azz, just curious.. John:D

It would be interesting to add up the numbers and see how much of their production is either contract work or SFOs these days.

I might be interested in adding another GEC or two in stainless if they produce any in patterns and handle materials that I like. That's probably unlikely given their preference for 1095 and no lack of sales, but I can afford to patiently wait.

In order to have an official presence here, a representative from GEC would need to oversee/moderate their forum. GEC is a small operation and is busy working hard just to get their product out the door. I'm sure a certain amount of what is discussed here makes its way back to GEC through alternate channels, but Bill has his own vision/goals for the company, too.

:D

Oh, yes, the 'ol GEC company song... I hear this frequently. I'm sure Bill collaborated with Mick to create the lyrics.

Now where did I see that NF burnt stag 83 with a satin blade...

Personally, I don't think that there's a need for a GEC Manuf Forum. I mean, a great deal of discussion in this Forum gathers around GEC anyway. The other aspect is, our discussions are free, open and objective which is rewarding for all parties. A manuf moderated forum might be less open about matters, I can think of other places on the internet where such places can become a conduit for sycophancy or personality cult:eek::rolleyes::D

This way, we can share our enthusiasms, disappointments, hopes and proposals without 'filtration'

Regards, Will

P.S. I need a new knife, know the feeling?:D

GEC is active and responsive on their social media sites. If there's something you want to bring to their attention post it in Facebook (or other GEC social media site) and they will respond. I know that's not answering your question specifically, but wanted to point it out in case that helps anyone.

Many manufactures have a representation on BladeForums. I'm sure they feel it's a benefit to them.
GEC is always welcome to join up if they want. There's a write up in FAQs, in case someone is interested, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/f...nufacturers#faq_faq_bfc_section_manufacturers.

This link is also worth reading, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/f...rers#faq_faq_section_manufacturers_where_is_x. It might give some insight as to why we try not to let the discussion of one manufacturer's offerings overrun the traditional forum.

THANK YOU all for taking time to answer!! I don't/wont do social media so I will continue watch/enjoy these threads.. Just thought it would be advantageous for them to pop in every now and then to answer our questions/thoughts/ideas.. Thanks again as I am not trying to stir the pot or anything..:D John:thumbup:

Probably not related, but this has been posted on KSF site about the IRJ's for awhile:

"All of the Indian River Jacks are currently sold out. We just placed a new order for them that will be filled in 2016. Thank you for your patience.

Northwoods Knives - Indian River Jack"

The last few batches of IRJs have been made by Queen I would be surprised if GEC started making them again.

That's what I was thinking... I didn't think it was related, but who knows.

Hopefully we find out in a few days or so.

I bet it's that giant forest jack on the 98 frame that I keep going on about!

JK, but that would be sweet. Was the Burnside Jack made on the 92 frame? Could be more of those.
