Full post on my IG alchemy_1. In short, some special secret wood, red linen micarta, amber jigged bone ("because it looks like beer"), and acrylic will be released when they make a decision. She was also out scouting handle materials the first time I stopped by....

and back to the mystery barrel.....

So, I'd say it's far more likely that the barrel is a bourbon barrel but in the off chance it's a wine barrel or was once a wine barrel that then went on to hold beer and made its final stop as BSK covers here's a few pictures that I took today that show that awesome contrast of red wine and white oak. I was using 1/2 wine barrels gardening today. I've also used bourbon barrels ( sorry no pics) and they to would be outstanding as a cover considering the char and amber colors.

Found you on IG, thanks for the info!

Whiskey wood covers wood be great!

Completely agree. And the wood would smell amazing.

Much like the recent 'Oil Sucker Rod' wood used on the Beagle.

Except smelling like old oil, the whiskey wood covers would have all the aromas of a fine bourbon.

Tortoise Shell Acrylic Boy's Knife has center stage today on their site. Lookin' good! 😀

That is a good looking knife.

On the Acrylic the bolsters look polished, rather than the brushed finish in the prior pic on the Chestnut.

She told me they only made 10. She also gave me some info on beer scout covers [emoji16]

I could have misunderstood; but I thought she told someone at some time during the show that she had 13 remaining. They were good sellers and a great knife. I have got to change my way of thinking; in the old days a short run for GEC was two knives.

I've got a question for y'all....

I've noticed that the Navy/Rope knives aren't really all that popular and I've read quite a few statements that it's not a very useful blade shape. Comparing them to a Sheepfoot blade, they're actually very similar. Is it because of the bail? The EZ open? The combo of the two? Maybe just poor aesthetics?

Personally, I think they're good looking and a historically interesting pattern, but I think I'm in the minority. Usually GEC's disappear instantly on the exchange, but I was able to get one of Charlie's rope knives for substantially less than dealer pricing and it even sat there for a day or two.

Just curious is all. BTW, the stainless Navy knives are really nice!
