Lets talk GEC!

This picture does a great job of capturing just how well this jigging is done.
As for the brushed bolsters/shields we've seen on some variations I think they are very fitting on a Stainless knife as stainless begs to be heavily used in a variety of environments. I satin most of the bolsters on my users because they start to get that way relatively quickly from being in my pocket. I'm not sure how common brushed instead of polished is on GEC knives but I don't mind seeing something different.

Reminds me of something. I had to go fishing for this as I'm away from home and can't photograph my own knife. Sarah takes better pictures than me anyway :)

From an almost totally unrelated thread...

Wowzer yowzer, River Blue-- more delectable bone from 2008.

I have just ordered one of these. Every so often GEC produces a knife where everything just clicks and I think this SS navy knife is one such example.

It will be interesting to see how this jig bone looks on the boys knife. I do hope it's not a brushed bolster.

Yeah, did that brushed finish first appear on the SFO 85? I'm not sure. I don't mind it on the micarta but don't like it so much on the wood

As always, I could be wrong, but I believe that the matte finished bolsters are unique to canvas and denim micarta (the only two I've seen it with) and has to do with what grit they are polished to. The handle material lends itself to a grittier finish. The first time I saw it was on this short run crown lifter which came out right at the time of the red soup bone TC Barlows. Personally, I prefer mirror finish, but with the micarta, the briushed finish is really nice.

After seeing the upcoming 15s, I bet the lucky ducks at the big Rendezvous will get to pick from some pretty sweet "parts" knives!

Can't say I'm a fan of pre ordering. The whole snakewood viper thing left me cold because they didn't turn out right and never made it to the dealer. What chance has anyone got when banking on the future?
Ended up doing a successful and pleasant trade on bf for one.At the other end of the scale I get into a lather over a new release that I think is going to go like hotcakes, snap one up asap only to find many still sitting there a couple of years down the track.
I dunno. They're never going to please everyone all at the same time.
I say don't give up because GEC will produce something else later even nicer.:)
I think the main reason is that the popularity has grown immensely over the last few years.
Thats gotta be good.

I quite like this micarta navy knife that arrived yesterday. But alas, it is for my father-in-law. Hopefully, my chestnut will arrive soon.

I'm glad to see the acorn shield being used on these runs. I would really like to have a model with the trademark Squirrel etch as well...has anyone ever heard if this was permanently retired?

It's called hyperbole. Just trying to make a point.

I call it something else. :)

I cant wait to see the Boys knife -Chestnut in person. It looks like alot of variation in the slabs and they all look great!
Really excited to see the Acorn used too!

I wonder if the Elk coming up will have an acorn shield or will they follow the shield-less Stag precedent.

I'm really kicking myself for waiting too long to get an 82 thru the usual outlets, I should have my head examined, lol.

Ramrodmb, if the elk doesn't have the shield, that would be a real shame. Elk usually doesn't have quite as much character as Sambar stag and usually looks great with the acorn.

I'm surprised that they haven't done more of them. Stock knives are extremely popular patterns. I'm also surprised they've done so many specialized patterns like pruners and rope knives. Specialized knives and small knives typically don't sell as well as others.

I think they could sell a lot more runs of the 82 especially with nice jigged bone and a classic shield.... maybe federal, crest, or some sort of bomb shield. ...and steel liners would be cool too. ...and both 1095 and 440C.

They're nice knives. I'm also hoping for a sowbelly pattern.

I'm predicting (hoping for) more 82s next year, hopefully, Jake, with some of your suggestions for shields and stainless!

The new 98 frame would be so great as a 3 blade cattle knife (I do love the punch version and own many, but would love a 3 blade version) with a white acrylic handle with the traditional "cattle knife" graphic.

I would love to see another run of the 53 T.K. Cuban single spring dual blade knife. Large but not heavy.

I love that Osage Orange Jake! That's a beautiful knife!

While I personally like the pruners and rope knives quite a bit, I will admit they aren't very popular with most people. I seem to recall that Waynorth mentioned somewhere in one of the forum knife threads that a Sowbelly was slated for sometime in the future but not likely this year.

It's hard to choose a favorite between the 81 & 82. The bone on this 82 has to be one of my overall favorites, but the slenderness and rounded bolsters on the 81 make it feel really good in pocket and in hand.
