Edit: and they are gone...

Fine examples of Elk covers !!! I missed out on this batch of Elk. (Both 15 and 74) I will repost a image of the three that I own, and keep my fingers crossed.

there's was a few 74s with Elk covers at one of the Dealer's on line just a few minutes ago hamsco

You're not wrong (removing material is one way) but it may sometimes be possible to peen the kick on an annealed tang to raise it a little. I think Charlie (Waynorth) may have posted some photos of his attempt.

Charlie's a braver soul than I, and likely he was doing it on one of his Barlows which puts my entire paltry collection to shame. :D

It is a good point, if you can "squeeze" down the kick by peening it (probably have to use a center-punch or something similar) you can re-raise it slightly, though I have to wonder if that has any long term impact on the blade stability while closed or perhaps the integrity of the backspring over time. Of course, these are long, long term questions.

Somebody not long ago posted a thread about successfully using silver solder to build up the kick again. Wonder how that is holding up.

I have to wonder if shimming the contact point somehow (small sliver of metal soldered to the inside of the spring, perhaps) would be a better way to handle raising the blade using a filed kick. It would be close-in detailed work to get it anywhere near "right", no doubt, but my amateur brain thinks it's feasible.

Hmmm. Don't know about those beer scout options. Nothing takes my fancy there.

But I will probably be wrong again and they will all be fantastic, especially the one I don't order.

I don't post here very often (I'm referring to this thread, not to the whole traditional section :D) because (as a general rule) I only buy a couple knives a year (or even less) and GEC, while producing a very good product, rarely matches my taste or fulfills my wishes. But this time they really did, so today I placed my order for the new run of #74 (thanks again to Mike for being Mike :)). It will take quite long before I have it in my hands, but I'm patient  and I always thought (and wrote) that a single bladed knife on the @74 frame would be a winner. We'll see how I like it in a month or so...but for now, I'm happy with getting one :)

Sounds good. I like how they split up everything. I was expecting them just to duplicate the covers for the two.

Hope I've got time to update my reservations...

Thanks, Mike. Your information is always very useful. I'm not sure how anyone could buy GECs without this forum.

Definitely curious what "Draft Beer Acrylic" is going to look like. "Golden Ale Jig Bone," too. :D

I was lucky enough to score an Elk 74 today from a distributor...right place at the right time, because they didn't last long at all. With it and my Tortoise Shell acrylic 15, I am extremely pleased with the outcome of these two surprise runs.

Interested to see what the Draft Beer acrylic will look like on the Beer Scouts.

Also, many thanks to Supratentorial and others for the interesting info on adjusting the blade kick and the springs. I'm constantly blown away by the depth of knowledge on this board!

SSeriously!
Am I missing something here?
I have been gliding the skies of the internet for the last week like a peregrine falcon waiting to zoom down on a mustang. As yet not one dealer I see has even had pre orders let alone an actual knife. Now I read that the elks are gone. How is that? Remembering that my time zone is in front of the USA and therefore gives me a distinct advantage.
If someone ,anyone can pm me and direct me to the source I would be very grateful.
Or will it be snakewood vipers all over again.?
Disappointment is starting to creep in to my brain again.

remote location knife enthusiasts taking delivery of a mustang ...if theyre lucky?

I feel the same way. I've never been a tradition folder guy until I saw the run of beer scouts last year. As it stands, I still don't even own any traditionals because every GEC pattern I've seen that I've liked, I haven't even seen available in a store. I've spent most of my day today refreshing every dealer page listed on the gec site like once every 15 minutes since I've been working in front of a computer all day, and thus far have only seen the mustangs listed at 2 of the dealer sites and they were both sold out of all 3 handle materials already. I'd only ever seen one dealer with a pre-order list, and they were already booked full before I knew it existed. I had the same experience with the 15s that dropped a week or so ago. Hell, the 74s weren't even listed as being finished with production on the gec website until like an hour or so ago today. The whole experience has left me pretty bummed out to be honest, and I'm wondering if there's some way to get my hands on anything I'm interested in without having to basically spam refresh for hours or get lucky and catch the exact instant they go up on a dealer site. I feel like I'm missing some kind of special insider knowledge or being left out of some kind of club or something. Would it help if I started wearing my great grandfather's masons ring or something? Lol
