Lets talk GEC!

Don't forget your goat leggings worshipful slave.
If it's going to continue I shall take my hard earned cash elsewhere.
And stick a cigarette butt down flippers blowhole.

I feel the same way. I've never been a tradition folder guy until I saw the run of beer scouts last year. As it stands, I still don't even own any traditionals because every GEC pattern I've seen that I've liked, I haven't even seen available in a store. I've spent most of my day today refreshing every dealer page listed on the gec site like once every 15 minutes since I've been working in front of a computer all day, and thus far have only seen the mustangs listed at 2 of the dealer sites and they were both sold out of all 3 handle materials already. I'd only ever seen one dealer with a pre-order list, and they were already booked full before I knew it existed. I had the same experience with the 15s that dropped a week or so ago. Hell, the 74s weren't even listed as being finished with production on the gec website until like an hour or so ago today. The whole experience has left me pretty bummed out to be honest, and I'm wondering if there's some way to get my hands on anything I'm interested in without having to basically spam refresh for hours or get lucky and catch the exact instant they go up on a dealer site. I feel like I'm missing some kind of special insider knowledge or being left out of some kind of club or something. Would it help if I started wearing my great grandfather's masons ring or something? Lol

I mentioned a couple weeks back that this was a really bad idea on GECs part. Releasing a very short unannounced run of very popular stainless steel knives with clip point blades was always going to create this situation. Many people hovering over dealers websites clicking the refresh button is only going to create aggravation and a sad loss of goodwill.

#15 Beer Scout
Golden Ale Jig Bone
Maroon Micarta
Draft Beer Acrylic
Beer Barrel Oak

#15 Boys Knife
Antique Yellow Jig Bone
Gabon Ebony
OD Green Linen Micarta
Nifebrite Acrylic

Interesting options. I wish the micarta options were canvas, but at least they're not paper. Love the beer barrel oak!! The yellow bones sound a little meh. Maybe the jigging patterns will make them stand out. With all of the boy's knife real estate to show off, ebony might be my last choice. Better to use a wood with a cool grain.

But I'm happy for the most part. Maybe GEC will suprise me on the bone.

Spot on mate.

Definitely curious what "Draft Beer Acrylic" is going to look like. "Golden Ale Jig Bone," too. :D

I'm fighting an internal war right now over upgrading my reservation on the golden ale jigged bone to a "sure". I've already got one on the beer barrel oak, but at this point it seems like the only GECs anyone will get for the duration of the year will be either pre-orders or Navy knives. :o

But I'm happy for the most part. Maybe GEC will suprise me on the bone.

That's pretty much what I'm puzzling over/hoping for right now. I have little doubt the beer barrel oak is going to be outstanding on the beer scout, but I can't even wrap my head around any of the others yet. By the time I do, it'll probably be too late.

If nothing else, I've been on the preorder for the next run of beer scouts for a while. The beer barrel oak and draft beer acrylic have me really hoping for good things now too. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to snag a couple of 15's off the swap.

I used to feel the same as you Agronox !!!! Now I just watch Collector Knives site for their Early Reserves . If I see something I like , I reserve it . It may take a while , but it works for me most of the time. You can't play the game until you know the rules.
Good Luck in the future !

You guys are going to get this thread locked if you keep talking about the buying process and the dealers, based on the most recent posts in the thread by BOTH moderators.

Dang, just when I thought I could get past the Beer Scouts they go and release a Draft Beer acrylic. Draft Beer acrylic on a knife with a bottle opener? Either a monumental flop or a classic. Heck, it's Friday nite, I'm in :D

I like most of the just announced handle options on the upcoming beer scouts and boys knives. I do wish the boy's knives would have shields and bails tho.

I think referencing a reservation with a dealer who maintains a paid dealer account on BF without really fixating on the process is generally okay, is it not? There's not much of a difference between "I'm going to run out and buy that golden ale jigged bone beer scout" versus "I'm going to go upgrade my reservation now that I know what kind of bone GEC is planning on using", is there? We are certainly well within the scope of this subforum discussing the materials the knives will be built with, and since that same dealer's rep is the one who contributed to this thread with that information, I can't imagine there would be a problem.

Of course, I could be peeing into a strong headwind for all I know. But with new and highly-anticipated releases by a favorite manufacturer it seems unreasonable for a blanket ban on the mere mention of one's intention to acquire a new knife.

I feel like I'm missing something. Has GEC run this acrylic before? I am no fan of acrylics on new knives with all the micarta and natural options out there. The Draft Beer Acrylic is actually the only Beer Scout I've ruled out so far. Do you have some insight into how it looks? That would go a long way towards helping finalize my decisions on that run.

I agree completely. Where to find these knives is a big part of them. The limited amounts and the hunt for them is one of the reasons they are so popular IMO. Hopefully no one gets too upset over it. That ends up being more of a distraction I think.

It's been said before. I'll say it again, "Do not discuss pricing or selling practices. This thread is about KNIVES, not the selling thereof.

This thread needs to get off the discussion of dealers and back to the discussion of the knives.

Frank and I have been pretty lenient in letting this drift into the occasional dealer update etc. If you want to discuss dealer practices, GEC practices and other commercial stuff do it in Feedback.

Take the dealer discussions to Feedback. I won't say it again. I'll close this thread if I have to.

Maybe I misinterpreted what Frank and Gary were saying in those relatively recent posts. You guys talk about whatever you want to.

Why are they so up tight about the discussion of buying knives? Figuring out how to get a particular GEC knife can be very difficult, and there are no other places online with a GEC collecting community of this size for that sort of discussion to take place. To me, these rules seem completely arbitrary... or maybe they are purposefully making it harder for people to get into collecting GECs by suppressing information.

The Yellowheart look interesting!
Also liking the white bone. The Spear looks great !
