Lets talk GEC!

Rust Red, NifeBrite, and a few Antique Yellow and just a token amount of Ebony single blades have shipped today from GEC.

BTW, keep Christine's dad in your prayers/thoughts as he is having lung troubles; not good for a 92 year old.

Sorry to hear about her Dad, Mike. And thanks for the update.

Thanks Mike, prayers up for Christine's dad. My mom died of COPD complications . . . you gotta breathe to live.

I'm looking forward to my Rust Red, glad my taste has been for a numerous and readily available model and not some mirage gone in seconds version..:grumpy:

I chose an Amber 15 over the Rust Red some years ago and always kicked myself about it. The White Owl and Radio Jack I have in Rust look really fetching so I have great expectations for the 14. I hope it will be big enough because although I like smaller knives I was severely disappointed by the 18 Coyote, well finished yes, good looking yes but just too toy like and flimsy for my taste (and I have a moderate size to small hand so...) Let's see, I hope it's a success as GEC have a vast handle range on option.

Good points Willpower. I like the rust red too - probably suffers from a bad name! I also found the coyote flimsy, it needed a thicker blade. I will be interested to see how the 14 compares when I get one in hand. I haven't seen any proper comparison done yet, but it will come eventually.

For me, the attraction of the Barlow pattern is the way the handle nestles into the palm of your hand. The handle needs to be short and thick for this effect to be realised.

I'm excited about the regular #14 Boy's Knives as well. The TCs are really nice and I'm glad I was able to get ahold of a couple, but part of me is almost more excited about the regular versions (this Antique Yellow from GEC's home page the other day looks killer!):

(Also, it was the GEC front page knife on my birthday, so I pretty much have to get one, right? :D)

Will, obviously personal tastes differ, but I was concerned about the size of the #14 and I actually think it's just about right. I love the #15 size, and I'll carry something like a #77, too, but in my opinion, the #14 doesn't seem too small. Definitely more substantial than the #18. I know there have been a lot of comparison pics posted (next to #15s and #25s and #18s and all sorts of stuff), but I don't remember seeing an open comparison next to a #25 or #18 (apologies if someone already posted one). The photos I saw of a #14 next to a #25 closed concerned me a bit before mine arrived; I love the #25 spear point, but the #14 is obviously much slimmer, and appeared to be almost the same length in closed comparison photos. Open, though, the #14's spear point is noticeably longer than the #25, which is good since it's so slim in comparison.

I'm going to put together a great comparison pic when I get home. This is all I have for now.

They do look good, don't they? Looking forward to seeing a shot of them all polished up.

Little bit concerned about the look of that Rotten Banana Bone. If you go/look on GEC's website they have a picture of these knives all polished up. The brown coloration is all but gone from the yellow. The original GEC Rotten Banana Bone's coloring had much darker brown areas. I guess when GEC polished up the covers, it removed most of the brown coloration! Bummers, I was waiting and hoping for this cover selection to be produced again. I also read somewhere that the original Rotten Banana Bone coloring was actually a mistake, and that GEC would have a difficult time reproducing the look of the Rotten Banana covers again.
Hope my eyes are playing tricks on me!!!

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking Hawaiian Knife Guy. I've got a single blade comming to me that I was very excited about but the finished pictures on the handles looks grim. However looks can be deceiving. Only time will truly tell. Here's to hoping lol.:D

GEC makes fantastic knives but isn't known for being a photo studio lol. Just last week everyone thought the Barlows had no signs of Ragg bone. Every knife I've purchased looks 10x better in person then in the production pictures. Don't loose faith. I bet in hand they look just like a banana that's started to turn.

Does anyone have and can post a pic of the original Rotten Banana Bone covers? I believe GEC ran them on just one pattern back in 2010. These were truly cool looking knives!

StoneBeard, who said anything about just "started to turn", I want "rotten" baby, yeah give me some rotten bananas! lol

Haha, you got me there.

Here's an original pic and honestly one of the few floating around. This isn't my knife so I couldn't say how the other side looks, or what the rest of the run was like. This one knife could be the extreme example. It's hard because most folks myself included are only using this knife for comparison.

Thanks StoneBeard for the pic! Love me some rotten banana's!

I thought maybe I was the only one that was thinking this. The rough covers looked like there was a lot of brown splotches throughout the bone, but the more finished pics appear to be almost all bright yellow, with just a brown patch here and there, and some knives with almost no brown at all. We'll see how they look in hand, but my excitement has taken a hit.

When I first heard about the early reservation on the RBB I ask ( In one of these GEC Threads) if anybody could show me what they looked like. I got a quick response by at least two people . Witch resulted in me beating the feet right over to the site offering the reservations and happily getting in line :D
